December 14, 200322 yr Ivan Rodriguez, C View stats Dec. 12 -- If the Chicago Cubs need an endorsement to pursue free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez, all they need to do is ask Ozzie Guillen. The new Chicago White Sox manager, who was a coach on the World Champion Florida Marlins last season, said Rodriguez wants to play for the Cubs. "He's looking to go there. He wants to go there," Guillen said Saturday at baseball's Winter Meetings. "He knows they have a good team." Rodriguez signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Marlins this year. Florida had offered a contract in excess of $7 million on an annual basis. But Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras, ended negotiations Dec. 7. Although Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Friday he'd be happy to open the season with Damian Miller and Paul Bako as his catchers, it's hard to not be intrigued by the possibility of Rodriguez behind the plate at Wrigley Field. I hope Cubs dont spend too much on me hes not worth it.
