December 14, 200322 yr AAA Las Vegas 51's is in the Pacific Coast League which is a hitter's paradise because of the high altitudes and depleted pitching. His numbers are better than anything in our farm at AAA and in relief.

December 14, 200322 yr Looks like he was a highly rated SP prospect at first, disappointed so they moved him to the pen. Hes got as good a shot to make the pen as Gracesqui, so its a good move. Again, better than nothing.
December 14, 200322 yr Colyer was called up by the Dodgers a few times last year and did pretty well. He pitched in 13 games, 19.2 innings, 0-0, 2.75 ERA, 16 K, 9 walks, but did give up a lot of hits (1.58 WHIP, .289 opponents BA).

JC, D/F 1997 (2nd round) Signed by: Mike Hankins Background: Colyer is a perfect example of why the Dodgers need a low Class A affiliate. Usually a pitcher at his age with inconsistent command would pitch below the California League. Strengths: Colyer?s raw stuff should place him higher on this list. He throws a mid-90s fastball and a power overhand curveball, both potential strikeout pitches when he has good command. Colyer?s changeup showed improvement last summer. Weaknesses: Colyer hasn?t shown maturity on the mound or off the field to take advantage of his natural tools. His approach is inconsistent from start to start, and scouts felt that he gave up late in the year. Colyer?s command would improve if he simply concentrated more. The Future: Colyer will turn the corner if he dedicates himself to being a major league pitcher. Some members of the organization believe Colyer?s best role might be as a power reliever who could come in and throw in the upper 90s for an inning at a time.

December 14, 200322 yr I really, really hope it is this guy. I like his raw ability - and it sounds like a change of scenery will do him good. The Dodgers dont strike me as having a great developmental farm system. He may have just got lost in the shuffle. Rosenthal will straighten him out...
