Marlins claimed RHP Joe Gunkel off waivers from the Dodgers; optioned him to Double-A Jacksonville.

 

Gunkel was designated for assignment by Los Angeles earlier this week to clear a 40-man roster spot for top prospect Cody Bellinger. The 25-year-old right-hander owns a 3.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 362/75 K/BB ratio in 439 1/3 career minor league innings.

Excelled in rookie A and other low level A leagues. Pretty good AA stat line. Challenged in AAA (4 ERA). Needs more time. 25 years old. Don't know why the Dodgers ever had him on their roster, didn't play a game.
