Per Sun-Sentinel Bullpen article, the Marlins have a choice of right-handers. It's Mike Nannini or Wilton Chavez. This is with the Lee trade, not Encarnacion. Anyone know anything about either of these guys?

Marlins acquire Mike Nannini and Travis Ezi to complete Lee, Encarnacion trades

 

 

Pro Player Stadium - The Florida Marlins today announced they have acquired RHP Mike Nannini from the Chicago Cubs and OF Travis Ezi from the Los Angeles Dodgers as the players to be named later in the trades of Derrek Lee and Juan Encarnacion, respectively. Senior Vice President and General Manager Admin Beinfest made the announcements.

Nannini (5-11, 190) spent the 2003 season the AA West Tennessee in the Southern League and went 10-9 with a 3.62 ERA in 31 games, including 24 starts. Nannini notched a career-best 15 wins in 2001 with Lexington of the South Atlantic League, as he posted a 15-5 record with a 2.70 ERA in 28 games (27 starts). The 23-year old right-hander from Detroit, Michigan (resides in Las Vegas, NV) has pitched in 149 career minor league games (134 starts), posting a 56-45 record with a 3.58 ERA. He has collected 14 complete games and four shutouts in his minor league career.

 

Nannini was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the first round (37th overall) in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired by the Cubs with RHP Travis Anderson on September 11, 2002, completing a trade in which Chicago sent RHP Tom Gordon to Houston for LHP Russ Rohlicek and two players to be named on August 22, 2002.

 

Ezi (6-0, 175) hit .259 with 10 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 42 RBI and 33 stolen bases in 120 games with Class A South Georgia in the South Atlantic League. The 22-year old switch-hitting outfielder from Baltimore, Maryland set career bests in hits (117), home runs, RBI and stolen bases and matched career highs in doubles. Ezi was drafted by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft. Ezi has played in 302 career minor league games and has hit .253 with 26 doubles, 15 triples, 12 home runs, 105 RBI and 79 stolen bases.

We might as well have non-tendered Encarnacion. This Ezi guy doesnt look good at all.

Ezi is puzzling to me. I dont get it. If we got Coyler, now that would be something. Ezi doesnt look anything more than a career minor leaguer at this point. Nannini is a little surprising - he has pretty good stats. He gets a lot of K's and seems to keep a solid ERA. Interesting.
