Possibilities for PTBNL in Redman Deal

Featured Replies

This was printed before the trade by Bay Area newspaper

However, before a catcher is acquired, the A's, according to a National League scout, may land Florida left-hander Mark Redman, who was 14-9 with a 3.59 ERA last season. In return, the Marlins are interested in a young lefty such as Mario Ramos or John Rheinecker.

The scout said the deal was "close'' to being done, but the hang-up is whether the A's can sign the arbitration-eligible pitcher. The A's have had conversations with Redman's agent, the scout said. If he's acquired, Redman would join a rotation already featuring Tim Hudson, Barry Zito, Mark Mulder and Rich Harden.

My theory: Its possible that Mike Neu is a throw-in and that the player that the Marlins truly want is hinging on Redman signing a contract with the A's. But in any case, the Marlins are going to get something for nothing especially if they were planning o non-tender him all along.

John Rheinecker > Mario Ramos

John Heidenreich!?!!? Oh, please no, he's so uncoordinated and.....oh, wait a minute.....sorry, read that name wrong. I've been spending too much time on wrestling message boards i guess. :D

I really dont think Oakland is going to keep Redman for too long and will try to use him as trade bait for a bat. I mean they already have 2 lefties on the staff and there going to be paying 3 million for a 4th or 5th starter on there rotation. I highly doubt it especially since there a small market team and were trying to cut payroll down to meet there limit.

But will see, I could be wrong.

Well so far the PTBNL the Marlins received have turned out to be question marks, mid to moderate prospects so I'm sure we'll get more of the same from the A's.

I really wonder what we're thinking this offseason...it's getting really difficult to figure out...

Ramos was the As top pitcher in the system at the time he was traded to Tex for Carlos Pena but after he busted and was released by the Rangers his stock hit rock bottom. he is "seasoned" and he is left handed SO i guess he is worth a shot...
