Are the unwritten rules of baseball hurting the game?

Featured Replies

I came across this article where Washington Wizards player Bradley Beal mentioned that he is glad he plays basketball over baseball because they don't let you celebrate because of the unwritten rules. What are your guys' thoughts on the unwritten rules? Do you mind it when players pimp a home run? Should there be harsher punishments for beaning guys afterwards?

Why are these rules still unwritten after all these years? You would think someone would take the time to write them down by now.

I heard that they keep running out of ink or something.

My take though is just that I don't like things that directly insult the opposition. Even that is vague and hard to define but basically I tell my son when he's in attendance at a game it's ok to say cheer the Marlins but not ok to boo the opponent which sounds like it's the same but its really not and I'm applying this same concept to the unwritten rules.

Maybe they should use a pencil.
