Florida Marlins
Why is Quintana not looked at as a realistic player on the team? All he does is rake? Do they think it’s a fluke? I know he’s not young but we did trade for him, what was the point?
Morientes50
Good question. In general, if a prospect is a bit older or can’t hit for power or play one position exceptionally well then they get left out of consideration. Quintana seems to combine all of these. Harold Ramirez and maybe even La tortuga are in a similar mold. Me personally Id rather have a true hitter that can reach 290 than a power guy that hits 220 with 30 plus home runs. I seem to be in the minority on this matter.
marlinsmaniac
I literally have no clue. He’s actually the son of my dad’s friend and we’ve been scratching our heads since last year wondering the same thing. I tend to give the team the benefit of the doubt and say they know something we don’t like that maybe he calls a bad game or doesn’t do a good job of getting in rhythm with the pitchers etc. But yeah, definitely a better bat than Jackson and his 60% strikeout rate.
SongInTheAir
He looks like a significantly better player than Astudillo, and has even pitched two innings in the minors. I would rather see him make the team as the final bench bat than Astudillo, but to answer the original question: he's a contact hitting catcher who is already 33 years old and didn't start his MLB-affiliated baseball career until 4 years ago. Does that mean he's not good? No, absolutely not. But it does mean teams will overlook him for shitbirds like Alex Jackson because of his "potential"
