January 20, 200422 yr from Miami herald JACKSONVILLE Hunter shoots his son, mistaking him for a hog From Herald Wire Services A hunter shot and killed his 14-year-old son, mistaking the teen's black cap for a hog, authorities said. Dennis Plucknett said he mistook his son Alex's black cap for a wild hog when he aimed and fired his rifle Saturday. ''The little boy was sitting down in a ditch with only his head sticking out,'' said Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson said. Alex was wearing a black toboggan cap with a camouflage jacket without a reflective vest, authorities said. Alex was a Boy Scout who had attained the Order of the Arrow. He also played baseball at his middle school, where he pitched a no-hitter last spring. Dobson said he plans to meet with the state attorney's office today about the shooting, but said there's ''no question'' it will be ruled accidental.
January 20, 200422 yr If he didn't die it'd be funny. But he did, so I don't think it's supposed to be that humorous.
January 20, 200422 yr I think it is pretty stupid on the father's fault. I'm sorry for the family, but I want to know what the dad would have said to the kid if he survived. "Sorry son, I thought you were a pig." ?
January 21, 200422 yr Just proves that most people who own guns don't have the common sense to use them safely.
January 21, 200422 yr I don't think that's funny at all! It was pretty stupid on the father's part and he's going to have live with that guilt for the rest of life. I don't know how you guys can think that's funny.
January 21, 200422 yr Author Just proves that most people who own guns don't have the common sense to use them safely. Just look at the 3 year old who shot himself. Guns are bad! :thumbdown

January 21, 200422 yr Having spent a couple of years working for the old Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission (now the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission,) This is only the tip of the iceberg in the 'News of the Wierd' for hunting seasons. It is not a great statement on the the intelligence of the local hunting inhabitants of the area, but reading the reports can be a source of amusment.

January 21, 200422 yr Guns are bad! :thumbdown No, improperly used guns are bad. Guns owned by irresponsible people are bad. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
January 21, 200422 yr Author Guns are bad! :thumbdown No, improperly used guns are bad. Guns owned by irresponsible people are bad. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Guns are bad. People are bad too but bad people are ok without guns. I should rephrase that: Guns are not good!
January 21, 200422 yr I own guns. I dont do dumb things with them. First of all, no one should ever shoot unless they know where the rest of there party is. That is a basic rule in hunting safety. I wonder if they have their hunter's safety certificate, and are licensed to hunt.
January 21, 200422 yr Guns are bad! Guns don't kill people...... ...Postal workers do. Seriously, I have no problem with gun ownership. The problem is with the responsibility levels exhibited by some of the firearms owners.
January 21, 200422 yr Author . The problem is with the responsibility levels exhibited by some of the firearms owners That is the problem with guns. They are bad . . . and stupid people make them worse.
January 21, 200422 yr Don't be afraid of guns. Be afraid of the people who use them. By the way, this should go into the politics forum.
January 21, 200422 yr Author Im not afraid of the person. I'm afraid of the gun. I see what you're saying, though.
