He was the single highest paid player in the NL. He's not going to throw that money away.

The O's sucked because they had abandoned their promising minor league system waiting for those 30-somethings to retire. Their FO also pissed off a lot of their younger stars (Mussina) in how they treated the aging cancers of the team. and were unwilling to replace them with high priced free agents.
