The replica world series ring! I was wondering what it looked like. Was there one given out after the 97 world series? If anyone knows let me know I'd liek to see a picture of it.

I dont think they've released the photo of It yet, or will release it anytime soon for that matter.

But count on me being there for the Jack Mckeon Jack In The Box night. :hat

These aren't cracker jack styles, but they're pretty nice. I remember mine from

97 was actually nice quality.

i cant wait to be there to take pics of the ring ceremony. samson said he might break his arm trying to carry his.

i really dont care about the replica rings they're going to be giving out though.

*im lying through my teeth*

april 10th

remember a while back, somebody posted an ebay auction that had a "replica florida marlins" WS ring that was supposedly given out to the founders club members? I bet it looks like that one. If I remember it was pretty nice.

WS Ring

Marlins ready to ring in the new year; hop on board

BY BARRY JACKSON

Looking to get the biggest bang from winning the World Series, the Marlins will spread festivities honoring last year's team over the entire six-game opening homestand (April 6-8 vs. Montreal, April 9-11 vs. Philadelphia), instead of doing everything opening day. The ring ceremony is scheduled for April 10.

''My arm's going to be in a sling because of the size of our ring,'' Marlins president David Samson told guests at UM's baseball banquet Tuesday.

Samson, who replaced previously booked guest speaker George Steinbrenner, joked of the Yankees owner, ``He couldn't be here tonight because his team stinks.''

The Marlins also will become baseball's first franchise with a dance team -- an updated version of last year's Mermaids.

The team also kicked off its annual winter caravan Saturday. Several players were scheduled to go to the select-a-seat day at Pro Player Stadium and the University of Miami-Georgetown basketball game at night.

Among their activities, some players will be at the Toyota Prius Miami Tropical Marathon at Bayfront Park from 10-11 a.m. today. Monday night, Juan Pierre, Dontrelle Willis and Jack McKeon will be at the Heat-Pistons game.

sounds like theyre going all out.

i wonder where that dude got that pic to put on ebay since no ring has been given out

I think he customized the ring from some ring company. I know kids can customize their high school/college rings, so I guess you could make a fake WS ring and get some idiot to spend a lot of money on it.

it only sold for 50 bucks

Only? Some bum paid 50$ for a fake ring, and when the Marlins release the rings come April, the giveaways will be better than that. Oh well, he must have fooled a lot of people.

Yeah, I didn't think the gem color would be ugly teal either.

Can anyone look up a picture of the '97 ring?

Hey I was looking for the 1997 world series ring and came across this it may be old news but here!

Stolen World Series ring found in Venice

A Florida Marlins 1997 World Series Championship ring worth $7,000 and stolen five years ago has turned up in Venice.

Venice police detective Howard Dunn said the gold and diamond ring belongs to Rod Mickel, a former Marlins broadcaster.

"The ring was stolen in a 1998 burglary at Mickel's house in Boca Raton," Dunn said. "His wife saw it on eBay and said, 'That's my ring.' "

Dunn said Gail Mickel called the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office.

VPD Sgt. Mike Treanor picks up the story from there.

"Palm Beach detectives called us and said the Web site came out of Venice and they were waiting for eBay to confirm who the subscriber was," Treanor said. "They did and we confronted him. He felt bad about the victim."

Detectives said the eBay subscriber had nothing to do with the burglary and came by the ring legitimately.

"He bought it at a jewelry show in Lakeland," Dunn said, "but he's out the $3,100 he paid for it."

A published report in the Palm Beach Post identified the Venice man as 56-year-old Phillip Castellano.

The report stated that Castellano is a Marlins fan who collects postcards, coins and baseball cards who said he always wondered why the ring's owner would part with such a ring.

Castellano said he asked the coin dealer if there was any problem with the ring.

"He said 'no' it was bought legitimately," Castellano said. "I never would have bought it if I knew it was stolen and I certainly never would have put it on eBay."

Castellano told the Venice Gondolier Sun he decided to sell it on eBay to help pay his son's college tuition.

Anatomy of the burglary

According to a Palm Beach Sheriff's Office report, Gail Mickel left the house at 7:20 a.m., June 9, 1998, returned home at 3 p.m. and discovered her home had been burglarized.

The burglar went through every room, removed drawers and threw everything on the floor.

The burglar took some costume jewelry, CDs, $70 in change, plus games for a Sony Play Station.

And the championship ring, which was on the kitchen counter.

Ring on way back to owner

Venice police took the ring to Mickel, its original owner, on Thursday.

The case is still under investigation.

Police are trying to track the ring's history from the time it was stolen until it turned up recently.

It is hoped the trail will eventually lead to the burglary suspect.

However, Venice detectives said finding a suspect or suspects in and of itself might not be enough to put the burglar behind bars.

"The statute of limitations (five years) may have run out," Treanor said.

Gail Mickel, when contacted by Venice police, reportedly said, "If only that ring could talk."

By the way, the Marlins won the 1997 world series in seven games against Cleveland.

The Marlins recently beat the New York Yankees in six games for their second World Series title.

By the way- we won a world series to get that ring. One sentence about how we got the ring.

Pretty interesting article though.
