April 27, 200422 yr I think Phlub has it correct. If Burnett comes back in no-hitter form we jump up a few spots.
April 27, 200422 yr funny how Sorianofan only mentioned the Yanks and hasn't come back. here's my take ... although this was done earlier in the season A's Cubs Red Sox Houston Marlins Funny? It has been one friggin' month people. jeez. I mean, Mussina is going to end the year with a 7 ERA, right? Kevin Brown 34 IP 2.12 ERA Javier Vazquez 27.1 IP 2.63 ERA Mike Mussina 28.1 IP 6.67 ERA Jose Contreras 11 IP 10.64 ERA Lieber is back friday Now, do we expect Mussina to have a 6.67 ERA all year? Or Contreras to have an eleven ERA? April is not even over yet. All of these guys have about 180 or so more innings to pitch. Here's that "vaunted" Red Sox Rotation Bronson Arroyo 18.2 IP 5.79 ERA Tim Wakefield 19.0 IP 2.37 ERA Curt Schilling 28 IP 4.18 ERA Pedro MArtinez 32.2 IP 3.03 ERA Derek Lowe 14.2 IP 6.75 ERA Guys, it's FRIGGIN' APRIL. Wakefield's ERA will baloon to 4, Schilling's will be closer to 3.0-3.8, Pedro's will likeley be lower, Lowe's will be 2 ER or so lowe, and ect. I stand by what I said earlier. It is a toss-up between the Yanks, A's, and Cubs. Cubs, Yankees, Oakland no one else is close
April 27, 200422 yr Vasquez is awesome Brown is very good IF (a HUGE if) he stays healthy I know it's early, but Mussina is very hittable, still good, but definitely hittable Contreras has great stuff, but doesn't know how to use it God only knows what Lieber will do That's not a top 5 rotation SorianoFan, no matter how much you want it to be.

Mike Mussina has a career 3.53 era. He averages 235 IP a season (162 games adjusted from baseballreference.com). He averages 187 K per season to 52 BB. Overrated? Hardly. You have to be totally not informed about baseball to call mike mussina overrated. Just remember my prediction, I'll let the season do my talking.
April 28, 200422 yr Mussina is a very good pitcher. Not ace-like, but consistently well above-average. If he had a decent defense (I'm looking at you Jeter and Williams) he would have been just as good as Pedro or Maddux.
April 28, 200422 yr I think Phlub has it correct. If Burnett comes back in no-hitter form we jump up a few spots. He walked like 9 guys in that game though so hopefully he isn't so wild.
April 28, 200422 yr soriano, how does no 1 come close to A's yankees or cubs? i fail to see that Because every rotation on paper is inferior. You will see by end season.

I didn't, so don't put words in my mouth to override my good argument. Mussina is one of the better pitchers this game has seen in the past decade, but he's getting older and naturally when you get older, your skills deteriorate.
April 28, 200422 yr lmao, well if your response is reffering to right now, then im sorry. but the marlins rotation should be riiiiiiiiiight up there meng
April 28, 200422 yr it was a response to you and that guy who called mussina overrated. One problem.... I never said he was overrated, and if you want to go look and try and prove me wrong, go ahead, cuz you won't.
April 28, 200422 yr It was directed at dtrizzle, but also at your "mussina is done" thing. Of course he's not "what he used to be" none of us are, but he's as good a bet as any to be on of the best starters in the major after this slow start. He's a spectacular pitcher.
