castillo1
Marlins shut out O's By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com ? Marlins notes: Penny picture perfect ? Lowell, Burnett battling aches, pains JUPITER, Fla. -- A day after dropping a one-run game to the Orioles, the Marlins gained a measure of revenge Friday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium. The Marlins rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Orioles behind three perfect innings from Brad Penny and an 11-hit attack. Juan Pierre had three hits, an RBI, stolen base and scored three runs. Miguel Cabrera and Luis Castillo each added two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Jose Bautista and Miguel Tejada had the only hits, both singles, for the Orioles. Baltimore took a 6-5 decision on Thursday at Fort Lauderdale Stadium, and these teams will meet again in Jupiter on Sunday. The Marlins grabbed an early lead Friday, scoring three runs in the first inning, opening with four successive hits off Orioles left-hander Omar Daal. Pierre reached on a bunt and scored on Castillo's RBI double. Cabrera's run-scoring double made it 2-0. After Mike Lowell's bloop single to right, Jeff Conine had a sacrifice fly to right. The Marlins upped their lead to 4-0 in the second on Castillo's RBI single. Pierre had a one-out double to left that was lost in the sun by left fielder Admin Bigbie, who was struck in the head with the ball. Bigbie was shaken up but not hurt. Penny retired all nine batters he faced, striking out two. Daal was lifted after two innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. The Orioles were held hitless for five innings before Bautista singled off Darren Oliver to open the sixth. Baltimore loaded the bases in the sixth, but Oliver got out of it when Rafael Palmeiro tapped into a 4-6-3 double play. The Marlins added two more in the sixth, building a 6-0 lead. Alex Gonzalez tripled and scored on Pierre's single. Cabrera had a run-scoring double.

PBMarlin
Looks like Pierre's speed is really working for him. Stole a base, scored and scored from 1st on a double. Awesome. And Cabrera was slapping the ball all around as well. Great start. :thumbup
AJBurnett34
Pierre showing his speed already Man, now thats more like the Marlins. Very good outing for Penny, this guy is due to have a good season at some point. He has a great Fastball and Curveball but gets in trouble when he tries and overpower a hitter. PBMarlin
I'm worried about Lowell. Lowell, Burnett battling aches, pains They say it's his elbow....the same one that was hurting during the WS. It must not have healed during the offseason. Cabrera may be starting at 3B for awhile. :confused
