Posted March 9, 200420 yr Valerie bure and marcus nilson for PROSPECTS!!! how is this going to help the team NOW? theire thinking of the future instead of NOW. this upsets me greatly as a panther fan. what are they thinking?!
March 9, 200420 yr look, this isn't washington selling off Jagr, Bondra, Gonchar, Lang, etc. there wasn't much to dismantle in the first place. this team's not good. the only untouchables are Luongo, Horton, Weiss, and Bouwmeester. Nilson's a nice player, but I'd hoped he'd at least be a 12-15 goal scorer, and he's got 6 this year. That can't happen. Decent at everything but very good at nothing. Val on the other hand I'm very sorry to lose. Had a terrific season with us. Remember though, that last season Val was dealt at the deadline for Mike Van Ryn (who turned out to be one of our top 2 defensemen) plus we were able to re-acquire Bure anyway. Dudley has said he would love to have Val back again, & if Dallas doesn't keep him for 3 million (which is unlikely), I think Val loves playing down here & he'd probably consider signing back with us. Biggest gripe I have is that they weren't able to deal Huselius. In the meantime, we've got 2 additional second round picks now to deal with on draft day. "We're not getting younger with this move," Dudley said. "This sets the stage for us getting more veterans. We're trying to clear the deck so we can add what we need. We know what we need and we intend to go after it. I'd say we need three or four players when it all shakes out this summer and we have no problem going after it. "If you have tangible assets on draft day or thereabouts, you can parlay them into pretty good things. This year, with the collective bargaining agreement expiring, there are teams who are going to have to move very functional NHL players. If I can take two second-round picks to acquire exactly the right piece of the puzzle, then you use them." hopefully, HOPEFULLY they are gearing up to make some big moves on draft day next season. (if there is a next season)

(if there is a next season) I'm not a hockey fan but why would he comeback after being traded away twice within the last two years?
March 9, 200420 yr think of it this way.... Armando Benitez instead of Val Bure. Marlins are way out of the playoff picture. Trading deadline comes around & the Detroit Tigers are making a run at the playoffs. (stop laughing) The Tigers closer situation isn't great & they need an arm if they're going to go anywhere in the playoffs. They inquire with the Marlins about Armando Benitez. The Marlins discuss it with Benitez & tell him the Tigers need an ace closer & that they're in a position to get a good young prospect in return, but that after the season they'd be very interested in bringing him back. Marlins get a prospect, Tigers get a boost for the playoffs, Benitez gets a chance at a world series. And in the end the Marlins still could get Benitez back in a couple of months anyway. could Benitez be hurt/pissed that the Marlins aren't hanging onto him for dear life? sure. but he also probably knows the team isn't sniffing the playoffs & has to think of its future. he likes living in south florida & likes playing for the marlins. it's not ideal, but it happens more than you'd think. nhl transactions are bizarre...
