One thing I worry about with Heaney is Redmond, of course. Redmond will undoubtedly take him out of games too early, costing him, and the Marlins, opportunities to win games. Just watch you guys; I guarantee that pretty soon we will see Dunn, Jennings, and Turner blowing games that Heaney starts. If you have any doubt, think back to last year and how many games that Jose Fernandez started got blown by the usual bullpen suspects, Dunn, Webb, etc.

Umpires still screwing this team, as usual; that was Ball 4 to Jones. The Blue have screwed the Fish for years; thank God for instant replay this year, or we would have lost several more games due to them. So now they just screw us on balls & strikes. My theory on this is that this organization, because of the ownership, gets no respect from anyone in baseball, and that includes the umpires. Maybe there's another reason why this team constantly gets so many poor calls, but I can't think of one so I'm going with the No Respect theory, LOL...

Heaney is settling down nicely; that's very good to see. My impressions: this is a finesse pitcher. A Cole Hamels type of lefty rather than a Sandy Koufax dominating type of lefty.. Certainly nothing wrong with that at all! Although maybe some guys might be disappointed considering all the hype and the expectations of how he was going to come in here and become an Ace right away and save the Marlins' season. Not saying that he won't do all that, but let's be honest, that's a hell of a lot of pressure to put on a 23 year old kid. Anyway,so far so good, but if anyone was expecting The Second Coming of Ron Guidry, they are probably a bit disappointed. But that's not Heaney's fault; it's the fault of those guys for having unrealistic expectations.

Where's that guy who told me yesterday that Heaney has better stuff than Henderson Alvarez? I'm willing to give the kid the benefit of the doubt due to first game nerves & jitters and whatnot, but Alvarez throws 96-97 mph and has a variety of good pitches. This kid is nice, but at 93 mph he ain't gonna blow anybody away. Of course it's way early, but this is why I have to shake my head when guys make these kind of statements before the kid even threw his first major league pitch.

I'm outta here. Take it easy, guys.

I probably can't predict it, but there are #'s available to project them. Eovaldi and Alvarez are both #3ish/potential #2 type starters. Heaney is better than Eovaldi and Alvarez. Heaney is about as safe as a prospect can be because of his command. His secondary pitches are superior to Eo's and Alvarez. I hope you are right. Although since Heaney hasn't pitched yet in the majors this year I think it's a bit premature to annoint him our best pitcher, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion. And I hope you turn out to be right. Funny thing about baseball. There's very little that can actually be predicted with that much certainty. I'm 58 years old, and have watched and played baseball since the days of Whitey Ford, and I've seen a lot of "sure thing can't miss" prospects go down the drain. That's why I try not to make absolute statements. But hey, I do hope you turn out to be right, for the team's sake.

Well, time to go. Jennings is pure garbage.

With Jose out, we have no #1 starter. Alvarez is playing the part, but his early season greatness is probably not sustainable. Heaney will probably be our best pitcher now that he's up. Yeah, all eyes will be on that game tomorrow, and we will all be hoping. But no one can predict how Heaney or anyone else will do the rest of the year.

They're sitting on the fastballs because he can't locate his slider today. That's the difference between now and earlier in the year. When that slider works, so does the fastball whether it's down the middle or not. When you have a third pitch you don't have that problem, do you? That's the point. That's what made Jose so much better. He had at least 4 pitches.

Did anybody ever say that? I don't know about on this board as I'm new here. But yeah, when Jose got hurt, that was the4 big hope, that Eovaldi could step up and be a Number One starter. Thing is, Henderson Alvarez has stepped up far more than Eovaldi has.

Cubs @ Marlins 6/18 12:40 P.M.
Let's face it, this guy is no ace. Until he develops at least one more pitch he's just a hard thrower that hitters eventually catch up to.

Cubs @ Marlins 6/18 12:40 P.M.
Like I said, Eovaldi is a long way from becoming a top starter. The kid is a two pitch pitcher. Constantly throws fastballs down the middle and no matter how hard he throws, these days guys are sitting on it and driving the ball. Whoever thought this kid could ever replace Jose must have been smoking something really good.

what a horrendous AB from Mathis. Why is he starting btw? Redmond loves back up catchers like himself. Not only does he love starting Mathis whenever he can, he also rarely pinch hits for him, even with the game on the line in late innings. As I keep saying, Redmond manages this team like it's September and they are 15 games out.

Mathis is just terrible. Great defense, but a strike out machine.

Woo-Hoo! Number 20!

Ugh. Once again Eovaldi is not sharp. This kid has decent stuff, but he is basically a two pitch pitcher. I have no idea why he hardly ever throws the slow change up he has, but because of that hitters don't have a lot of guessing to do: either a 96 mph fastball or that 87 mph breaking pitch. Until he develops that 3rd pitch this kid will not become a Number 1 starter. I had hoped he would step up and become that after Fernandez went down, but it hasn't happened. Hopefully the Fish will have their hitting shoes on today.

Well gentlemen, it was a real pleasure doing this with you guys. Lots of strong opinions, but mostly a good respectful crew you got here. And the team won, so that makes it even better!

The Real Hech is back! Lots of Hech hatred. Much of it justified, I agree. He has gotten better this year though. I also remember how much hate there was for Bonifacio his first two years. But he did improve. Hopefully Hech will too.

Not if u go by era. Lol, that's one of the biggest reasons I hated Pinto too... His numbers never showed how much he sucked. Exactly! Much like our boy Jennings on this team.

Bell was terrible. So was Jorge Julio. But in my humble opinion, the worst was Renyel Pinto. And Taylor Tankersley was really bad too.

Uh oh...I don't like this. Dyson or Dunn; pick your poison! Dunn is the lefty specialist that can't get lefties out. He's pathetic. Baker has the power to take him deep.
