  1. There are exceptions, but in general a forearm injury or elbow sprain is a precursor to surgery. So it is likely a matter of when not if, unfortunately.
  2. Seems like every pitcher gets TJ these days. The obsession with spin rate and velocity is a major factor. Sucks for everyone.
  3. He is still striking out way too much and they just gave him a fist baseman's glove so he will stay down for a little more seasoning for now. Once Morel gets Mervis'd he will get his shot. Right now he is an identical version of Owen Caissie. They have four guys in Aaa who are all possible future first basemen (ddls, Gus, berry, and kemp). All have flaws but it will be interesting to see how it plays out should Morel follow the path of Wagaman.
  4. Props to Ober. He dominated an overmatched lineup. Hopefully hometown Max can do the same for us tomorrow.
  5. I'm sure they saw the raw power and figured they had something if they could cut down on the strikeouts. Same thing trading for De Los Santos. Similar to Norby as well. They scout guys with outstanding tools with holes in their games and hope they can fix the weaknesses and they will have something. It is high risk, high reward. When it works out it turns into a Liam Hicks or Stowers. When it doesn't work out you get a Wagaman. They do the same thing with speed: Esteury Ruiz, Emaarion Boyd, Marsee, etc. These guys have an elite tool but are available because they have a flaw in their game. Polish the flaw and you have a diamond. Unfortunately, it is not always that simple (e.g. P.J. Morlando) Most of the guys we pick up or trade for or even draft have outlier tools. That is the modus operandi. Personally, I'd prefer a little more emphasis on defense, fundamentals, and high game IQ. Right now the result is poor fundamental baseball which is costing us but that is sometimes the price when you have a young and learning on the job roster at times.
  6. Morel gets to the end of the month max to show he belongs on the roster. Bailey Ober is dog-walking the Fish.
  7. Eury being Eury. Marlins still trying to grasp fundamental baseball a quarter of the way into the year.
  8. Eury vs Ober
  9. Four average to above average pitches. Changeup needs most work. Fastball at 94-95, occasionally touches 98. High IQ pitcher, has bulked up some on his frame. Originally Vandy commit, which is a pitcher factory. Been in system five years but broke out in last calendar year. Good athlete, played basketball as well. Only 6-2 so more finesse a la Garrett than overpowering. Projects as third or fourth starter.
  10. Good win, took a series which was needed. Fairbanks back Wednesday We have a guy looking really good in aa right now. Under the radar prospect who could shoot up the rankings. Karson Milbrandt, 2022 3rd Rd pick.
  11. Disappointing loss. If they were a high school team, they would be running sprints after the game. Need to get some work in the batting cages.
  12. Disappointing loss. If they were a high school team, they would be running sprints after the game. Need to get some work in the batting cages.
  13. Not a free agent until 2028 but he is 31 so if we can get some trade value out of him that is fine.
  14. Agreed and he is on the older end of the spectrum for a guy who hasn't played a lot in the majors. Hence why an extension that many were crying about is and was not a good idea. Still think he will get right and be useful the next couple of years. Let's get some runs and walk this off never-say-die Fish!
  15. They could use an innings eater instead of a bunch of specialty/niche guys. I think eventually that will be Junk (or Braxton perhaps). If it isn't Junk, that is a good problem to have because it means he is pitching well enough to stay in the rotation.
  16. Stowers is still rusty from his injury. He is still in spring training mode and his timing is off. Hopefully he can shake the rust off and get into a groove soon.
  17. Never mind he's still in the game. Guy is dealing. Get him out.
  18. Glad to see Griffin out for the Nats. That looks like a nice pickup for them. We haven't had as much success in the Asian leagues. Now let's get some runs against a below average bullpen!
  19. Good debut by Snelling, Had some nerves and he is still just 22 so there will be ups and downs but have to feel good about throwing him out there every 5 days instead of Paddack.
  20. He's always been a good hitter in the minors but hasn't been able to get consistent playing time in the majors. Ruiz, Edwards, Lopez, Marsee, Sanoja can all create havoc on the bases and are problematic in the lineup. Would like to see him get a nice extended run where he is in the lineup every day but it probably won't happen. Surprisingly, he's a liability in the field.
  21. You have to give Morel and Jimenez extended playing time to see what we have in them. No one is going to be able to hit if they don't play consistently (except for Sanoja, probably). If they don't hit then you can release them. For the record, I don't think either is going to make it.
  22. We drafted Nunez back in 2019. An impressive 12 draft picks for the Marlins played in the majors. Unfortunately, none of them were any good. Nunez has the highest career war of all of them. Nardi and Troy Johnston were back to back 16th and 17th round picks. Marlins legend Josh Simpson was a 32nd round pick.
  23. I think the last time I was this excited was Edward Cabrera's debut. Let's hope Snelling can overcome his nerves and put in a solid performance. Time to win a series and the Nats are a team we should be able to compete with. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundementals!
  24. Sanoja, Marlins legend.
  25. I don't have a problem with it even if it blows up. Put the kid in a high leverage situation and see what he has got. The bigger issue is not scoring at all against a weak Oriole bullpen.
