It depends on where and when. By the time they move I will be out of college and living some where else. If I am in Texas or Charlotte and the marlins end up there then yea I would stay a fan, if I wasnt in one of those states I would prob just switch to the local team or go back to the Yankees, or possible go to the O's or Nats

I am getting tired of reading this guys sutff. I mean both Charlotte and Norfolk are much better options then this guy says. To say that the Norfolk area cant support a team is down right retarded as the area is loaded, also with Charlotte he is saying that MLB will be lower then the Nba and stuff, well mlb in charlotte would be just as big as the NFL is there

G. Scott Thomas and Kevin Gale need to perform a little more research. Start with a map of North Carolina. Raleigh, where the Hurricanes play, and Charlotte are two different cities. It's like saying the Orlando Magic take from the "personal income" available to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yea thats exactly what I was trying to say, they would have been much better to say the Bobcats instead of the Hurricanes

Also hate to break it to the person but the Hurricanes are not in Charlotte they are in Raleigh. I live in Virginia and I am closer to Charlotte then the Hurricanes are. Also Charlotte would support a baseball team on the same level as there football team. Also why did he list Norfolk, they dont have any other sports teams to take away money from them

Don't get the idea that we want to take the Marlins away from you guys. But I can tell you what - they come up here, and we will take care of them. I realize that might piss you off but it's true. I'd still rather them get a new stadium and remain in South Florida, though. Oh I am the same way, I would much rather them be in South Fla, but if they have to go I would want them somewhere like Norfolk or Charlotte, instead of Vegas or Texas

Yeah another one of 'these' threads. But I figure there are a good amount of college baseball fans on the forum and rather than making lots of new topics lets get some quality college baseball discussion going. Anyways I'm obivously gonna talk some Elon here. Opened the season yesterday at #13 South Carolina. Lost in 11 innings 5-4. Bullpen blew a late lead and then an error in the 11 screwed everything up. Today beat them 2-1. Good to beat a top team early in the season. Would be huge if we could take the series. Got a real experienced team this year. The weak point is probably going to be the pitching. Top 2 spots are pretty secure but a lot of guys fighting for the 3rd spot. Final game is tomorrow. Last weekend was pretty surprising with #1 Texas losing 3 times to unranked San Diego.(Is that Tony Gwynn's team?) Now #1 Florida started off pretty nicely yesterday. A 10-0 win over Cincy. How's your team looking this year? sh*t I'm an idiopt can someone move this to The other sports Forum San Diego State is Tony Gwynn's team

I'd welcome them here. Of course I'd prefer for them to get a stadium deal in South Florida, but if they have to move, why not relocate where Ol' Dodgii can see them without having to take a vacation to see some road games? As far as the territories of teams go, there are more Yankees/Red Sox fans than the Nationals/O's/Braves. I think a team in Norfolk would draw more fans to the stadium than a team in South Florida would. There are 1.3 million people within half an hour in any direction of Norfolk. Add hundreds of thousands if you consider my hometown of Williamsburg, other cities like Suffolk and Smithfield, etc. These are all within an hour of Norfolk, and probably less. I'm telling you guys right now, we can support a major league baseball team, and we'd be happy to have the Marlins, and I guarantee you they'd be happy here. We are a far better option than Charlotte or Portland. I am from just up the road in Yorktown, and I have to disagree with you on this one. While I do agree that Norfolk would support a team very well, as you would not only get the Hampton Roads people but you would get people from all over Tidewater coming down every so often and even get people From Richmond every so often as well. I dont agree with you that it is better then Charlotte. Charlotte would draw very simular crowds, From all there surrounding areas, but it is alot better of a location, as I said Norfolk is a pain to get into where as Charlotte is very easy to get into(I go to Panthers games and have no problem getting there, where as I go to my sisters apartment in Norfolk and have a hell of a time) Lastly, the guy the Marlins talked with basicly has the backing of a lot of Government Officals in Norfolk, he is prob the best person to talk to about this as it is basicly his job to get a Pro team to come to Norfolk I think aura-wise that Norfolk is better. Especially if Harbor Park were to be used. As for who the official was - it's not a matter of whether or not Norfolk will make way for a team. They've been waiting for one for years. It would give the area the exact boost in commerce it has been seeking (and it would really help out Williamsburg as well) Now I could agree with that, Harbor Park would be a great place to have a team if they added on to it, but yet again I think Overall Charlotte is a MUCH better loctaion for a team, but I do want a team in Norfolk some day, I was really in favor of them putting the Nationals there, but MLB wanted DC and that is it

Doesn't Virginia already have a team they watch? Baltimore/Washington Actually you are wrong on that one. Virginia is one state that doesnt have a team. There are people in Northern Virginia that watch the Birds and Nationals, but Norfolk is at least 3 hours away from those people. People in the Norfolk area dont have a team. Some root for the Braves and Mets because there Triple A teams are in Richmond and Norfok(Norfolk one has a nice AAA stadium), Some root for the Yanks and Red Sox because well they are who they are, some will root for the Nationals and O's because they are somewhat close, and then there are some that root for teams like the Marlins(Like me) because there are no other teams near here. You put a team in Norfolk and you will get tons of support, but as I said if they had to move I think Charlotte would still be alot better

I live near Norfolk, and while I would love to see a team go there(Wanted the Nationals there) I have to say that if the Marlins move Charlotte would be a much better place. Norfolk would certainly be a good place as people will go see them play but the main problem with Norfolk is a tunnel that goes into norfolk that is always a mess to get through, and if you are trying to go through the tunnel in between 2-6 when the Naval Base is letting people off work you are screwed.

Also remember that North Carolina is a HUGE baseball state and people that are located anywhere near I-77 could easily get to Charlotte to watch a game. They said the same thing about Florida. I think you two are a bit off-track. Participation and passion are two entirely different things. Athletes seek out sports where there are opportunities, even if they might not care for the sport as much as another or at all. They may not even care for any sport in the sense of being a fan. I know a couple former jocks that have never seen a game that they did not participate in. See this is where I dont think you get it. North Carolina has Participation and passion. When the Twins where thinking of coming to Carolina a few years back the place went nuts. The love baseball and they love to watch it. I have gone to baseball games at every level(High School, College, and Different Levels of Minor Leagues) and all the people love to watch the game. I have been in tourneys in High School(Mine is from VA and we sucked) down in North Carolina and we have sold out both the Durham Bulls Stadium and the Charlotte Knights stadium. People in North Carolina love baseball, and they dont really have a main team to pull for(Some pull for the Braves, Yankees, Red Sox) but you put a team there they will root for that team just like they did for the Panthers when they came to town
