  1. :thumbup WELCOME Welcome! I dont think wearing "save the florida marlins" shirt and flyers could help this team stay in florida. The only thing that could help is go to the games and not just show up when there is playoff games. So all of us lets head out to the ball park :thumbup
  2. I just hope him and Josh watch themselves in the World baseball classic with the arms and everthing else... THEY HAVE TO BE HEALTHY FOR US TO WIN NEXT SEASON PERIOD! I suspect if Willis signs longterm he won't be pitching anywhere but for the Fish. But your pint is well-taken. I'm not in favor of the World Baseball thing for a number of reasons, and the chance for injuries is foremost among them. What do you think they do in spring training, play toss ball and relax on a team couch. Have you read the rules that they have for the WBC, 60 pitches is the max.
  3. Perhaps a better idea would be for Sosa to sign with the Mets. Certainly Carlos Beltran doesn't deserve to have a job handed to him, not after his atrocious (for the $$$) season or Cameron with a lousy dozen homeruns, certainly Sammy would look good running out into right field for the Mets next season. I'm not sure if that was directed at my post or not, but if it is, I'm not saying that the job should be Hermida's to win, it should be his to lose, but Conine and his light hitting may be the one on the bubble. It's certainly an issue of preference, and if Sosa's only going to hit 10-15 homeruns while batting .240, it's a non issue, but if Lowell is a sure bet to return to form, why isn't Sosa? I mean, if both those guys come back at 80% of what they once were, Sosa would be an upgrade over Lowell or Conine. finally someone that gets the big picture. We are looking at a guy that was one of the top baseball player in the league 3 years ago and now that he may have to sign a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Wow that would be a great bargin.
  4. How many more fans would go and see Conine compared to Sosa, i would say about 500 thousand to 1 million people. Fixed. Conine is a huge draw at Dolphins Stadium. Every time he pinch hits he is received well. If you sign a .200 hitter with declining power and put him in the outfield I would imagine that would hurt attendance. I live in Baltimore, so I know what Sosa can do in terms of attendance. Based on 2005, I would say that Sosa may actually have prevented people from showing up at Camden Yards. He was pretty much viewed as the running joke of the team. He got zero respect from fans here. really, so the people that went to see the marlin games was to see conine sit on the bench or start a few games. Wow all this time I thought it was delgado, cabrera, willis on his starts, and the deadly lineup that we had. Conine bringing in attendence, never did it in his younger days, and now that he is older he is a big ticket attarction. RIGHT :thumbup

Wow thats incredible because at first you guys were selling out and doing good on attendence, but wasnt it after your long losing streak that killed your season and this is without sammy in the lineup that your attendence went down. Dont blame it all on sammy. I remember hearing this when the marlins were going to sign delgado everybody was against it. Everybody was saying he was to old, to much money, he has never been to the playoff,he is not a good defensive fielder, national league is not suited for him, all kinds of crap and now he's a hero that nobody wants to see leave. I can see it know, everybody saying how much they love sammy and that they dont want to see him leave next year.
  6. Find a solution to get a stadium and the organization making more money makes me a mets fan. Rachel i bet your a cubs fan aka white sox fan. :mischief2
  7. This owership has gotten really close to having a stadium that they are going to lose everything by having a rebuilding year. All iam saying is instead of doing that try keeping the payroll the same and sign sosa for cheap and see how many more people come out to see the games. People want to see big names out there and yes miggy and willis are good but their names arent out there with the big ones yet. Not until this year when willis won 22 games and miggy had another good year, that the media mention their names. You put sosa in the middle with all the media that follows him and iam pretty sure they are going to catch on more on willis, beckett and cabrera. Sosa could really put the marlins name out there, local and nationally. Willis, beckett, cabrera, delgado and sosa you dont think they will get more tv time. delgado itself did that last year when espn televised 3 straight games to open the season and 2 more the following week against the phillies. Conine in 131 games hit 3hr 33rbi in 335ab and sosa in 102 games hit 14hr 45rbi in 380ab. Come on conine over sosa for the same price, RIGHT.
  8. You have heared of all kind of crazy ideas in this forum before like manny and furcal and even vasquez to be dealt to the marlins. But i think the marlins should really think about trimming their payroll and instant keep it at $65mil or go up to $70mil. People want to see big names on the field and yes i know that we had delgado last year, but a good team usually have 3 to 4. So how about signing sosa who many are saying he is going to japan to finish his career. Why not give him a shoot he is not that $20 mil a year guy he once was but he is still a powerful hitter. Instead of talking to juicer palmerio, hear what sammy gots to say. He could probably be in the same price range as conine, which he is getting 3 million if he comes back. How many more fans would go and see sosa compared to conine, i would say about 500 thousand to 1 million people. You can put him as a reserve or trade lowell and put miggy on third, hermida on LF and Sosa on RF.
  9. Great post, couldnt have said it any better. Miami is not a great baseball site, there are no baseball fans there. All of the fans are up north, and not only that but they can get a stadium because there are more options. Don king was offering his place , boynton beach have some investors that want to put some money, West palm beach say they have money to put. You cant have a team where people dont make enough money to go to the games.
  10. I've been following his "rumor" for a couple of days and it's genesis seems to be a blogger/lover of the Cubs who says the Marlins "have offered" JP for Corey Patterson and Rich Hill, but the Cubs don't want to give up RP Hill. Personally it makes no sense whatsoever as Patterson is so messed up offensively he's out in the desert somewhere right now trying to find his swing. If the Marlins gave up JP for Patterson they'd be giving up probably 100+ hits a year, 50+ stolen bases and not have a defender any better than they have now. And Patterson is, I assume, arb eligible going into his sixth year (maybe fifth more or less full time), already makes almost $3 mil a year, so what's the benefit there? Oh, did I mention he's a strikeout machine? Struckout 160+ times in 2004, in 600+ at bats. I think it's pure fantasy and more than anything, wishful thinking on the part of Cubs fanatics. They've (the fans) wanted JP for at least a year now. And Hill, BTW, looked awful when brought up three times this season, posting 9.13 ERA. It's just a rumor that goes round and round and round... JP for corey patterson would be perfect. Dont get me wrong I love JP but if they are trying to cut some money to keep delgado then lets do it. Plus south florida has always been a place for good player to find their stroke back. Dolphin stadium is perfect for corey that is really fast and he gots the power to hit it out , something that JP doesnt have. That was the problem with the marlins last year, lots of hits(2nd mlb), but not alot of key hits. So i would give up some hits for some rbi s any day.
