  1. The real difference between Anderson and Dunn is 35% and not the 12% in your example. Production (OBP & SLG) is obviously the most important thing. Please point out where I argued otherwise? But just because OBP & SLG are important it doesn't mean that driving in runners is not important. If someone doesn't drive the runners in the runs don't score. I would rather have a guy with a .900 OPS that excels at driving runners in over another .900 OPS guy that s*cks at driving runners in. You don't care. I don't understand why you don't care but whatever.
  2. Anderson? Garret Anderson? .296/.327/.468 (.795) Garret Anderson? Yea, Adam Dunn isn't as good as him at all. Probably should have left Anderson off the list but I was going down the leading active RBI leaders and he's about 10th. With that said, overall Dunn is a better hitter than Anderson but Anderson is better at driving in runners on and I want my power hitters not to s*ck at driving in runners on and Dunn s*cks at it. That is all.
  3. I remember in the good old days when it was a good thing for companies to disclose information to investors allowing investors to make informed decisions. I guess Obama disagrees. I smell future lawsuits. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090410/bs_nm/...nks_stresstests Banks asked to keep quiet on stress tests WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? The U.S. Treasury Department is asking banks not to mention the regulatory "stress tests" as part of their first-quarter earnings results, according to a source familiar with government discussions. Many of the top 19 U.S. banks who are undergoing regulatory stress tests have already completed internal versions of the examinations, which are designed to determine their capital needs under more adverse economic conditions. However, the banks do not yet know the results of the government's version of the assessment, the source said. U.S. President Barack Obama is meeting on Friday with top financial regulators to discuss the stress tests, the results of which are anxiously anticipated by financial markets. Officials have said they will release the results in some form by the end of April. Most major U.S. banks will have reported their first-quarter results by April 24. The source said the desire to keep the stress test results under wraps will be discussed at the meeting on Friday. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp Chairman Sheila Bair are scheduled to attend the meeting, as well as top White House economic adviser Admin Summers, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro, and U.S. Comptroller of the Currency John Dugan. The regulators are expected to brief Obama on the progress of the stress tests, and discuss what next steps may be necessary after the tests. In an attempt to assess banks' capital needs, the government is testing how they would fare under more adverse economic conditions than are expected. The markets are anxiously anticipating the results to see which firms get a clean bill of health and which firms will likely need more taxpayer help. Some of those market fears were soothed on Thursday when Wells Fargo & Co, the No. 4 U.S. bank, said it expected to post a record $3 billion first-quarter profit, causing its shares to soar 31.7 percent and lifting other bank stocks. Once the stress tests are finalized and the capital needs are determined, banks will have six months to raise capital in the private market or could take an infusion of government funds. The government plan to use public-private investment funds to soak up the banks' toxic assets will be another recovery program available to those banks in need. Officials are still discussing how to release the results of the stress tests, and the decision will likely be made by the Treasury, a source familiar with official talks said. The source said officials are aiming to release them in some form at the end of April after the first-quarter bank earnings season is over, and are trying to be sensitive to financial market reaction.
  4. Maybe he comes up a lot with a guy at first base, while someone like Miggie comes up a lot with guys in scoring position. The base runner split between bases for Dunn's and Miguel's PAs are practically the same yet 45% more of those base runners score with Miguel at the plate compared to Dunn. Remember this next time you read RBIs are solely team dependent. Base runner split between 1st, 2nd & 3rd Miguel - 48% / 34% / 18% Dunn - 48% / 35% / 17%
  5. Adam Dunn isn't as good as Pujols? Thank's for the news flash Tom Brokaw! Hey Genius.. I compared to about 15 different sluggers. I guess I should have compared him to Eckstein and Tavares and the like to make you happy!
  6. How fair is it to compare Dunn to the GREATEST HITTER IN OUR LIFETIMES NOT NAMED BARRY LAMAR? I compared him to about 15 sluggers. PWG then compared his walks to Pujols. I then compared his called 3rd strikes to the LEAGUE AVERAGE (very unfair!?!?!?!) and to Pujols. To Pujols because for whatever reason PWG singled out Pujols. Ask him why he singled out Pujols. Please explain why it's unfair to compare him to the league average? I only compared Dunn's walk rates in those key situations to Pujols. May I remind you (Bob too) that Dunn walks more than Pujols despite making less contact... it just furthers my (and Rabb's) point that Dunn gets pitched around, ergo fewer runs driven in in certain situations. Why do you say he gets pitched around more so than Griffey, Manny, Thomas, Sheff, ARod, Thome, Delgado, Chipper, Anderson, Vladi, Pujols, Ortiz, Berkman, Howard, Wright and Miguel?

  8. The reason he's a productive hitter (a 130+ OPS does not make you incredibly productive) is because he hits 40+ homers a year so I would be willing to sacrifice some walks for some additional chances for him hit even more homers. If he was more aggressive his walks would go down but I think his Ks would also decrease. I bet he leads MLB in called 3rd strikes and does so by a long shot. The frequency of his called 3rd strikes is ridiculous. The thing is though, why does he take so many pitches. It's not just about home runs and I bet you it has to have more to do with a "pitch to drive". That being said, he's clearly not comfortable swinging at pitches out of his zone, because... regardless of situation, he never does. Making him go out of his zone has a much much much greater chance for a negative impact then a positive impact. I don't see why he wouldn't be able to succesfully change his approach by expanding his strike zone in an effort to maximize his power potential but I guess we just have to disagree. BTW, he has a called 3rd strike 8.2% of his PAs... league average is 4.3%... Pujols is 2.3%.
  9. I have two computers on ethernet wires, and one laptop wireless. I haven't noticed any performance difference on my pc when I hooked up the second computer. The wireless connection is slower though than the two ethernet connections. Thanks. I'll connect the 2nd computer with the ethernet cable. My wireless is definitely slower and I'm not the most patient person.
  10. Make him expand his strike zone a bit with runners on the way other power hitters do so he can drive more runners in. That would be my preference. Make him change the game that's made him incredibly productive? 11. The other driver had a prior DUI. They really need to increase the DUI penalties to keep these bums off the road.
  12. I guess it depends on what you want the power hitter to do with runners on base. If I was looking for a walk then Dunn would the guy but I'm looking for him to drive the runners in and obviously among power hitters Dunn is the worst in doing so. So, then bat him 2nd? Make him expand his strike zone a bit with runners on the way other power hitters do so he can drive more runners in. That would be my preference.
  13. Walks are included in PAs.

  15. So the reporter asked him a question. He gives an honest answer that's factually correct. So he gets blasted. Weird world we live in.
  16. PWG.. What do you mean by that?
  17. That really doesn't tell me much. It's not very even. Does he come up a lot with 1st base open? Maybe he comes up a lot with a guy at first base, while someone like Miggie comes up a lot with guys in scoring position. If you look at his actual averages with men on base and men at RISP, you'll see that he is insanely walked 23% of the time. He gets on-base 47% of the time. The man is just straight pitched around. Dunn is not better than those other hitters so I don't think he's pitched around more than they are. I'm pretty sure after 000s of PAs the bases where the runners where on pretty much even out. My problem with Dunn is he's too passive with runners on. The 13% of runners on that score on his PAs is below the league average (14%).
  18. It's constantly been show that a weight OBP + SLG has more correlation to runs scored than a strait OBP+SLG. Is weight OBP + SLG more of a correlation to runs scored than OBP x SLG (runs created formula)? Not sure.I know that Runs Created formulas with a weight on OBP do better than a strait OBP * SLG, though. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...for-the-masses/ In this article the guy compared various formulas and RC did better than the weighted OBP + SLG... although I'm not sure what he means by "the full version of RC".
  19. I've always thought Dunn was overrated because he has stunk in driving in runners on base compared to other power hitters and I want my power hitters to drive in runners on base. Baseball-reference has a new stat (at least I hadn't seen it until today) showing the base runners on base a guy had and the number of those base runners that scored in his PA. Not surprisingly for a power hitter Dunn stinks. He has had 3,044 runners on base and only 410 (13%) have scored. The 13% pales compared to other power hitters. Griffey - 6868 1198 17% Manny - 6497 1237 19% Thomas - 6706 1223 18% Sheff - 6873 1177 17% ARod - 6062 1084 18% Thome - 6058 973 16% Delgado - 5784 1059 18% Chipper - 5736 996 17% Anderson - 5887 1074 18% Vladi - 4853 905 19% Pujols - 3584 685 19% Ortiz - 3800 708 19% Berkman - 3895 697 18% Howard - 1787 329 18% Wright - 2005 367 18% Miguel - 2535 495 20% Dunn - 3044 410 13%
  20. Right now I have a wireless connection. My main computer is connected directly to the router with an ethernet cable. I use the wireless for a 2nd computer and a laptop. If I connect an additional ethernet cable from the router to the 2nd computer would it have an impact on the internet speed on my main computer?
  21. This is what I have.. he made one OOZ every 27.2 innings.. ranking 21st out 27.http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/612/dunn.jpg
  22. And he had the 3rd best RZR of qualifying LFs... combine RZR and OOZ and he wasn't too bad in LF. Not really in this case, because of where he played. All that really says is that he he made plays of the ball in his zone, which was extremely tiny at the GAB. His OOZ is more telling, showing how little zone he has. But really, this is why +/- is superior to RZR/OOZ. I don't think his OOZ was that bad. Looking at LF with 500+ innings Dunn was 21st out of 27 in OOZ and was 10th out of 27 in RZR. I have this formula that adjusts a player's RZR upwards / downwards for his OOZ propensity compared to the average player and Dunn's adjusted number was 16th out 27.
  23. Hermida last season in RF had a +2 in about 1100 innings. Dunn was -11 in only about 200 innings in RF. He was also -12 in about 1000 innings in LF. Dunn is much much much worse that Hermida. What does this RF mean? Hermida's RZR last year was .890. Dunn's RZR last year combining LF and RF was .899. I think Dunn is one of the most overrated players and I would never want him on my team but I'm just saying what the numbers were. That RF meant Right Field. That's in +/-. And you can't really compare RZR in left and in right. Plus, RZR is useless without OOZ, as you get no show of range. You may be right you can't compare them (LF and RF) but I don't see why not. Either way, last year Dunn certainly stunk in RF but in LF using RZR and OOZ he wasn't too bad. Dunn had the worst OOZ of any qualifying LFer. And he had the 3rd best RZR of qualifying LFs... combine RZR and OOZ and he wasn't too bad in LF.
