  1. Flacco stepped out of bounds in the end zone... non-call of safety No he didn't. I think he may have but I never saw a replay. I don;t think they showed it. The NFL needs to fix the screw-ups in the delay of game penalty. There shouldn't be this second or two second freebie some teams get from some back judges.
  2. The MWC is the most underrated conference in college football, it by no means is a "crap conference". Three top tier teams in Utah, BYU and TCU who are in or around the top 25 every season. Air Force has made a bowl game for two straight years and Colorado State turned their program around by making and winning a bowl game this year. Add in New Mexico who had a down year but has a very good football program and the MWC is a very good conference. Don't call it a crap conference just because they aren't on ESPN or CBS every weekend. So where would you rank them among all the conferences? 3. MWC 5-0 vs. the Pac-10 and bottomfeeder Wyoming beat Tennessee this year also. 4. Pac-10 - USC, and everybody else 5. ACC - way too much parity in this league 6. Big East - Down year, with a lot of teams just not playing great 7. Big11Ten - overrated for the last 4 years FIU and FAU would be close to .500 teams in the Mountain West. The would both get slaughtered in the Pac 10, ACC, Big East and Big Ten.

  4. They had a pretty soft schedule.. 56th "toughest" schedule according to Sagarin. I don't put any weight on wins vs crappy teams and they had a few of those but that was an impressive win over Alabama. If you play in one of the crap conferences you really have to beef up your non-conference schedule. I guess they had back luck Michigan stunk this year but then again maybe the typical Michigan team beats them.
  5. You probably took easy classes. Yes for the last two years. Senior year was a complete waste as far as education is concerned. Four periods of teachers aide and work experience (Dominos). I don't know how it is now but I was allowed to change all my classes. Not only the electives but also the levels of the core classes . I hope it's not like that anymore.
  6. BTW if anyone actually believes our educational system in florida is in good shape they are highly misinformed I'm no expert on the subject and no offense Eddie but I'll go with Education Week over you on this one. Many people, especially those on the left, equate money spent with quality and that's not so. Talk to teachers about the education system here. Especially those who teach math and english. Most of them hate what the FCAT has done to their curriculum. Exactly my point. I was in HS during the beginning of the FCAT system, and it was bad. It just became teaching for the exam and taking practice exams. It's supposed to be a school, not a prep class. If kids were learning under the regular curriculum then they wouldn't need to be prepped for the test. Blame the school systems, the kids and their parents and not a test that prevents near illiterates from getting a diploma. Going to class should not be enough to get a diploma. Most of the blame goes to the kids. Schools are as good as the kid wants them to be. They can get a great education if they want but it's up to them.
  7. Obviously teachers are opposed to the FCAT. Teachers are not unlike most workers in that they are opposed to accountability in their jobs. I went through school prior to the FCAT and I honestly don't remember ever and I mean ever doing any school work at home. My guess is with the FCAT kids can no longer get away doing nothing.

  9. His 'overhaul' of the education system in Florida consisted of making the awful FCAT exam the entire focus of education. Well done. /sarcasm According to Education Week we have the 10th best education system and to make it even more impressive we do it efficiently because we're 39th in spending.
  10. I don't think there is but does anyone know of a ticker that tracks the price of oil? Thanks. There are a couple of ETFs...OIL is one, and the other one is USO. You have to look at the percentage change, rather than the price of the ETF. The price of the ETF is not in sinc with the commodity option pricing for oil, but the daily % change and charts are the same. Thanks. I know about OIL and USO. I recently bought USO but the thing is that because as you mentioned they're not in exact sync sometimes you read a headline saying the price of oil is up but then you look at USO and it's down. There's also DXO which moves twice at the rate on oil. You could have more than doubled your money in about 5 days as it went from 1.71 to about 3.60 if you were brave enough to buy it.. unfortunately I wasn't. I haven't observed that discrepancy. But I only look at these ETFs a couple of times a week, and mostly follow OIL and not USO. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Oil-prices-t...f-13993243.html According to this story oil went down 12.2% but USO "only" went down 10.7% and OIL went down 12.5%. DXO which supposedly moves at twice the rate "only" went down 12.8%. That's why I was asking.

  13. Year 1 he fires the DC he hired. Year 2 he fires the OC he hired. Both were bad hires... as was Shannon. No more scapegoats left. I doubt any up and comer or anyone with a proven track record will coach under Shannon. Yeah I agree. Lets hope he can recruit another good class and leave them for the next head coach b/c Shannon has at most one more season at the U. I think he gets two more years. For whatever reason the media honeymooon continues and until the media turns on him he'll be safe. My prediction is the media will turn on him durign the '10 season as they will no longer be able to make excuses for his lack of success without looking like complete fools. His (and Coker's) '07 recruiting class was not particularly good. His '08 was good but ranked as high as it did (No. 5) moreso because of the number of recruits than the quality of the recruits. He can't give out 33 scholarships every year due to the 85 scholarship limit. Even with some attrition from the 33 he'll only have about 60 scholarships the next 4 seasons.
  14. Let's be honest, it doesn't matter who the OC is if the players don't start stepping up. Ever since Dorsey/McGahee/Johnson left our offenses have been mediocre at best. It's hard to put points up on the board when your "stud" recruits underperform. I think this is right: '03 - Chud '04 - Werner '05 - Werner '06 - Olson '07 - Nix '08 - Nix '09 - New Guy You need the right guy but there has being no continuity. I think Kyle had 4 different coordinators.

  17. How does one do such stuff? Thanks.
  18. If the programs were downloaded from the internet is it fair to assume those files would be there? Well, if you downloaded them, I would guess you downloaded the setup or installation file... but I mean... just take a cursory glance to see if you can see files called "Setup.exe" or "Install.exe" or whatever Thank you.
  19. How they do it? Bill Parcells. and Tony Sporano. And Jeff Ireland. I wish Boog was still on. He would ridicule every pro Parcells callers. I wonder if he now thinks coaching is important. I doubt it.
  20. Will this work: 1.) copy the files with the programs to an external hard drive 2.) hook up the external hard drive to the new PC 3.) copy the files to the new PC 4.) run the programs to install them If these are the Setup or Installation files, this method is 100% fine If the programs were downloaded from the internet is it fair to assume those files would be there?
  21. Over the years I've downloaded a few programs from the internet and installed them on my PC. What is the easiest way of installing these programs on a new PC? Will this work: 1.) copy the files with the programs to an external hard drive 2.) hook up the external hard drive to the new PC 3.) copy the files to the new PC 4.) run the programs to install them There are three type of programs in question: 1.) free programs I downloaded form the internet 2.) paid for programs I downloaded from the internet 3.) programs I downloaded from the internet that are not free but were given to me by a friend and I don't know where he got them from and I have to idea about how to get them I'm most concerend about programs No. 3. I guess I could download No. 1s and No. 2s again but it would be easier to just copy the files if that would work. Thanks.
  22. The topic title should be changed. Just because the cops say a guy is guilty doesn't mean the case was solved. Many times cops are more concerned with getting a guy than gettign the right guy. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/bre...127,print.story Questions still remain in Adam Walsh slaying despite police naming suspect By Matt Sedensky The Associated Press 6:35 AM EST, December 19, 2008 HOLLYWOOD A quarter-century ago, Adam Walsh's accused killer accompanied police to a bus bench outside a Sears where he claimed to have snatched the 6-year-old boy. Then, Ottis Toole went with authorities to a turnpike where he said Adam cried for his mother. Later, they stopped at a bridge where Toole said he hacked off the boy's head. But did he really do it? The story was one of several accounts Toole gave over the years. And while Adam's father, "America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh, has long believed Toole abducted and decapitated his son on July 27, 1981, it wasn't until this week that Hollywood police said they agreed, and closed the case. But there was no new evidence, nothing new that came to light. New Hollywood Police Chief Chadwick Wagner said after a re-examination of the evidence, he believes Toole could have been tried and convicted before he died in 1996 serving a life sentence for other killings. Detectives were too hesitant, he says, partly because they didn't want to admit mistakes they made investigating Toole. But the case against Toole has holes. An Associated Press examination of documents released with this week's announcement leaves many questions about the kidnapping and killing ? there is nothing standing alone points to Toole. There are no DNA or blood tests, no slam-dunk eyewitness accounts. "If you're looking for that magic wand, that one piece of evidence, it's not there," Wagner admits. Even basic details of what happened can't be determined because Toole never kept his confessions straight (when he wasn't recanting). He said he picked up Adam outside Sears. Or was it by the mall merry-go-round? He said he bribed the boy with candy ? except when he said he used a baseball glove. He said he threw the boy's body into the same central Florida canal as his head, the only part of Adam ever found. He also said he buried the body off a highway and burned it in his mother's yard in Jacksonville. He took credit for many murders ? including some committed by others. He once accused his sometime traveling partner, another self-professed serial killer, Henry Lee Lucas, of being Adam's slayer ? but Lucas was jailed then. In a 1996 AP prison interview, Lucas said Toole confessed to him, even taking him to the mall to show him where he picked up Adam and to the spot where he supposedly killed him. Lucas died in 2001. Jailed for the 1982 murder of a Jacksonville man, Toole began confessing to Adam's slaying and others in 1983, sometimes to detectives from other jurisdictions checking to see if he could be linked to homicides of children and adults they were investigating. For example, despite having confessed to Adam's slaying, he told a Texas detective that he was incapable of killing a child. "I wouldn't do that. Not no little kid," Toole laughed, according to the documents. A day later, in a conversation with the same investigator, Toole said he killed Adam then dismembered the boy's body. But later in the same interview he said he left the body intact. In one of the most gruesome explanations of Adam's fate, Toole told a Brevard County investigator that he chopped off the boy's head, then brought his body back to Jacksonville and burned it in his mother's yard. "I ate a little bit of him," the detective recalled Toole saying. But Toole told others he buried it by the Florida's Turnpike or dumped it in the canal with the head. When the Brevard investigator asked why he kept recanting if he really did it, Toole blamed the Hollywood detectives. "Every time I'd tell them something, they would tell me I was lying and I was a liar," he later recalled Toole saying. "They finally just made me mad ... You are right, I didn't do it." Kathleen Heide, a criminology professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa, said Toole's confessions may have been his way of attaining notoriety or "immortality." But when he realized the disadvantage such a confession would have ? say, retribution from fellow inmates ? he recanted. "Sometimes these people are thinking in terms of chess games," said Heide, who studies homicides and child abductions. "But they're not that smart, and they don't play chess. Somebody who is going to commit a crime like that has problems with human decency and morality." But why confess and recant several times? Heide says Toole's low IQ, his troubled childhood and his inability to distinguish reality from fantasy all played a role. "His hold on reality was likely quite slippery," she said. Some eyewitnesses identified Toole as the weird man they saw at the mall the day Adam disappeared. Years later, others said they recognized the kidnapper the second he first appeared on TV ? infamous Wisconsin serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who lived in South Florida in 1981. Some in the community still believe the case is stronger against Dahmer, who was killed in prison 14 years ago. The two pieces of evidence that might have provided definitive answers with today's advanced DNA testing were lost by Hollywood police during their investigation ? a bloodstained carpet taken from Toole's car and the car itself. No one knows where they are.
  23. If you look at the '08 Yankees their free agents did well but their homegrown guys stunk. Cano stunk. Cabrera stunk. Posada stunk. Pettitte and Jeter stunk relative to their ~$38 million salaries. Wang was injured. Abreu, Alex, Damon, Giambi and Mussina all had good seasons. To blame the free agents for winning only 89 games is nuts. Posada was injured, cant really blame him for not playing well. Alos jeter is probably the most over rated player in baseball an in any other city wouldny get the kinda kudos he does.. I do agree cano stinks. Yes, Posada was injured but the fact is he underprformed and was a major handicap to his team. I'm not blaming him. I'm just making the point that the reason the Yankees didn't make it was because of their homegrown players and not because of their free agents.
  24. So the Yankees spend the money they generate on players. What is wrong with that? Would it be better for the owner to pocket the money? Nothing, though I think teams should have to share gate receipts with the visiting team (70/30 would suffice). Without the other team there is no game. A similar transfer of funds is done via revenue sharing.
