Let's separate the believers from the haters

Featured Replies

I want to say who believes what here. Two questions to begin, if anybody else has any feel free to post them and i will add them to the OP.

Do you believe Hermida will have a breakout year this year, or do you believe he will crumble?

Do you believe Bonifacio is the real deal, and can continue to produce at a respectable level throughout the remainder of the season?

Just want others opinions here, i hate Hermida, and so far this season he has done just as bad, never liked his swing one bit. Still has that uppercut swing, even on foul balls you can tell he's always trying to swing for the fences when he really isn't that type of hitter.

As for Bonifacio, he reminds me of a young Luis Castillo mixed with an Alejandro De Aza. He has very good instincts in the field, and is not afraid to try and swipe a base regardless of the situation. He also has that sort of slap hitting that De Aza had. Bonifacio will live and die by that swing, basically get a bunch of bloop singles. I feel he can keep this production somewhat up, and my bold prediction is that he keeps the leadoff spot in the lineup the entire season.

btw I really hate starting topics :p

Im gonna say both do well. Hermi will have his first good Ml year and boni will be a respectable leadoff man.

Hermida wont have either a breakout or a disastrous season. Average season of roughly 15-20 HR and hit .275.

I have loved what Boner has done in the first series however I'm gonna wait to see how he does in the weekend series against the Mets before I make a judgement.

Hermida is going to have a fine year, and I don't have a doubt about that.

Bonifacio looks like Luis Castillo straight out of the year 2000, but obviously the jury should be out on him for a minimum of April. We should come back in a month and revaluate where he stands with the club.

I'd agree let's see what both players do against a superior (to the Nats) club before judging either player. As much as I like what we've seen from EB, especially hitting from the right side which was supposed to be his weak suit (that is the thing more than anything else for me that determines whether he stays at the top), the Mets will be defensing him differently and more competently than we just saw from the Nationals. I bet for example you'll see the second baseman playing deeper as they try to cut off those flairs he kept shooting ove the 2B's head all series long.

Hermida also needs to start making contact as he did the early part of spring training. Towards the end he tailed off considerably and I thought it just may be boredom which sets in among lots of everyday players. Hopefully he starts making good contact, forget about the homeruns like he said he wanted to and just starting making good contact.

Why would someone really care what EB's OPS is, or use it as a comparative tool, when the thing that keeps him at the top of the lineup is going to be his on base percentage? He either gets on base enough to justify putting his speed at the top of the lineup or he moves down. It's like comparing Cabrera and Castillo, who would ever think to do that?

1. Straight up believer on Hermida. I'm sticking to my bold prediction, stating that he will make the All Star team this year.

2. Doubt he stays at the lead off spot. I see him going down because his OBP will be to low.

To me OPS is more important than OBP even for little guys.

I would prefer if he had a .325 OBP with a .355 SLG than a .365 OBP with a .305 SLG.

Ops is a better indicator of overall production, but I'll take the .365 obp if we're intent on sticking with him in the leadoff spot.

Let's also not forget Carlos Beltran in CF rather than Lastings Milledge. Switch those two this past series and that very very likely takes away at the least his HR and triple. It's awesome both of those fell, but those were both on Milledge and I'm sure everyone would agree on that.

I agree. Milledge is BAD. I don't know why he was so highly regarded.

Because he was a Met prospect to start with and Omar hyped the heck out of him. He isn't without talent, he's not very good now but I suspect if he can hang around for a couple of years and get focused he can be a true everyday player and have a decent career.

I understand that yes it's only been 3 games, and they were against the nats. But shouldn't a good team or even player out play an opponent like the nats? It's sad if they do terrible against a bad team. The good should beat the bad. I'm not saying boner would be good, or even average. I'm just saying that he's done his job so far.

With Hermida I do think he can be the real deal and he will improve from last season, but not significantly in any way.

EB, however, I want to see how he plays against the Mets first before I can make that call.

I think Milledge will be fine offensively but I'm surprised at just how horrible he's been defensively.

It's not just CF, it's all the OF.
