There is a league in Cuba. You are flat out wrong on this. If you think anybody is getting paid 50 mill without a strong inclination that they have what it takes you're moronic. There are a lot of players in cuba, you think they just take the guys who stand out in the few game WBC? Chapman was a huge prospect because he threw a ridiculous speed very rarely seen and Puig and Cespedes were ridiculous as well. WTF are you talking about? You think scouts go to Cuba? Often? You must be moronic.

Salty is terrible at the plate and behind it. So... I don't give a damn who starts as a catcher. We are cursed! Honestly, I'd take Mathis. Atleast he's not batting 5th and weak behind the dish.

WTF are you talking about. Did you just call Chapman a middle reliever? And Cespedes is one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball and has a huge power bat. He is gonna thrive in Fenway. Yes, yes I did. Chapman was a middle reliever and Mark Kotsay once had the same pop as Cespedes. So did Reggie Ambercrombie. Feel like taking part in a little experiment?

Umps encouraged to review call on their own? Sounds like they encourage every play to be challenged/ overturned.

Replay center is a mere 25 mins away by subway I think Exactly, Admin would have waited in an ally smoking clove cigarettes and killed the reviewer as he got into his "car service".

What in the world are you guys talking about! Abreu was KNOWN to be a sure thing major league bat! They were not too sure of where to play him. Im not saying this because im Cuban, but Cuba is one of the most advanced countries in baseball. It is a living and a passion. Even more so than yes Dominican Republic. The only reason this wasnt known before is because Fidel would block them from leaving before. Id PAY BIG for established Cuban players. They are worth it! I'm Cuban too, but you don't throw that money at those players- it's too much for such an unproven thing. Potential is not concrete for a 50MM investment.

Smart placement for Mathis, get behind the baseline and give them the whole path- reach forward to tag him instead of looking for him behind you. If Mathis doesn't catch it, I hope the pitchers backing him up or the runner gets beaned.

What is Mathis supposed to do... Allow them to score so we fall out the wild card race, duh!

Well, I know it's after the fact, and there's a ways to go on his contract, but ... G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB 107 462 418 63 127 29 1 31 89 1 0 32 103 .304 .361 .600 .962 164 251 Not exactly overvalued. Granted, White Sox aren't in a playoff position, but, those numbers would be MVP worthy. He'll be taking home Rookie of the Year unanimously. At the time, it was a blind bidding war in that you didn't know what you were getting. He was like buying a storage locker with a tarp in the shape if a car in the back of the unit. He's great value now, but no one knew what he was and to pay him like a MLB vet was a major leap of faith.

Didn't they make a very competitive offer of like 50 million? Yup, overvalued him. Just because he was Cuban. If he were Panamanian or Mexican with the same skills and same name and apperance with the same resume in the Cuban Leagues and WBC he would have gotten 10mm total as a free agent. And I like the guy.

I know you're joking but I'm talking about signing guys directly out of cuba. The fact that we haven't had one is a little sad. Throw 50mm to a guy fresh off a boat in a new country facing elite competition? Sure why not. I mean, it's not like it's known these Cubans are future all stars: instead of guys with no position (Abreu), No seasoning (puig), need minor league coaching (chapman) , no plate discipline (cespedes) or just not very impressive (Hechevarria). All of them have pretty big question marks, why take the gamble of paying a bust more than 20 guys on your roster
