fish14
any idea on what his policies are or what he would be looking to change as commissioner? please tell me he has at least some sense that baseball needs to target a younger audience. you'd be shocked at how few young people like baseball. I'm 20 years old and got to FSU and the vast majority of people you ask don't like baseball. Even hispanic kids.
fanofthefish
He's going to keep the status quo, nothing much is going to change under his watch. Even though there's much that can be done to improve the game but since the owners control the commissioner I wouldn't expect him to do anything drastic. Admin
I would love it if he... A. Returned the All Star game to being an exhibition game B. Did away with Interleague play C. Added two expansion teams D. Went to four 4 team divisions in each league, each division winner makes the playoffs(basically, eliminating the need for a wild card)

Michael
Agree with A. Only agree with B if C and D happened. Best record gets home field in World Series should also happen, since I agree with A. Also make the World Series a best of 9. 2 at Park A, 3 at Park B, 2 at A, 1 at B, 1 at A. Day off for travel between each set. World Series should be a little more difficult to win than the Championship Series - I think adding one more required game could do that. CoastieMike
I dont want to start a huge argument, but I hope he does none of that. Same here. I like that the ASG means something, keeps it interesting. It's not like football or hockey where a serious injury is more likely to occur. I enjoy how they scheduled interleague play this year as well, get to see new teams, and also a little more scouting for potential World Series matchup. As for expansion teams and 4 team divisions, I'd prefer neither. Wild card race is exciting. Why punish a team who has a better record than any other team in their perspective league, just because someone in their division has a better record then them. For example the Angels who have a better record than any other team in the AL, but not in the division because of Oakland (granted the season isn't over yet). Just my thoughts. Wild Card
Wouldnt be an argument. What are your disagreements? A. While the current All-Star game format is flawed, it's the best way we currently have to make the game interesting and worth a damn. B. Interleague play makes the game more interesting and, perfect example, gives us the opportunity to see pitchers like Darvish and hitters like Trout per our 2014 schedule. C. Why would the league need two more teams? So we can be like the NFL and go with your proposed 4 team divisions? D. Three divisions and two Wild Cards is more interesting and gives two teams from any division a chance to make the post-season. Without a Wild Card, you get stuck behind a team like the Yankees every year and you can never get in... How is that fun? As a Marlins fan, I can't believe you would ever want to eliminate the Wild Card. Makes zero sense for a fan of a franchise that capitalized on that playoff spot to win two World Series titles. Hell, that's why my handle here IS Wild Card...

SongInTheAir
The All Star Game needs to be an exhibition game if fans are going to be in charge of voting in starters and each team is required to have a representative. If they want it to count, then the two leagues should field the best teams possible. No Jeters, no Simons, no Suzukis, Carpenters, or Blackmons. I do like that every team has a rep, from a political standpoint. It brings the entire league together for one night, and as a Marlins fan, I know what it feels like to watch my team be excluded from the game and it's not any fun. fish14
i would want 1) All star game doesnt decide home field in the world series. i honestly have no idea how anybody thinks thats a good and fair idea. 2) Put the DH in both leagues 3) Expand the rosters by 2 players
Michael
9 games? Nah. Yeah. Original World Series was 9 games, and 1919, 1920, and 1921 were best of 9. I think it'd be better. It's all good, though.

Michael
162 game world series Perfect. It'll make things interesting. World Series gets played from October to March. You play in the World Series, you get penalized for it.
Admin
I forgot that, add another roster spot. And make the 7 day DL available for every injury, not just concussions.
Michael
I forgot that, add another roster spot. And make the 7 day DL available for every injury, not just concussions. Agree with the DL. Small injury that requires a few days off? 7 day DL.No more day to day stuff.
fanofthefish
Well if your going to add an extra player and decrease the DL time, maybe some sort of inactice squad for day to day injuries. Like a 3rd QB in the NFL, can only play in case of in game injury that requires removal from the game.
Piazza31
28 man roster, 3 inactive players per game. In exchange for the three more roster spots implement a harder cap on the game. All star game is voted on by the players and coaches with fan input via the fan vote. If the all star managers think something is out of wack they can fix it. Expand two more teams, Montreal and Vancouver possibly. Start international expansion plans. Squalls 4 team divisions like football. 6 playoff spots. 4 division winners. 2 wild cards Top two division winners earn bye. Bottom two playoff teams based on RECORD play a 2 of three at the better teams home stadium (or head to head record winner). Starts immediately following the season with no day off, gives better teams a break to line up rotation, rest up. Playoff roster is at 28 with three inactives, if someone's hurt during a series you can't replace them. Oh, and the MVP trophy is a birthday cake. Undakai
Dunno if I want 12 teams to make the post season, but I do like that idea over getting rid of the WC completely. Agree with Wild Card that inter league should stay, one of the best moves Bud made, creates diversity in the schedule, allows for a lot of the inter-league rivalries, and honestly it's fun to know that you might be able to face an Angels, Red Sox or Yankees team some time in the next few years (or centuries, if you're a Cubbie). Completely hate the idea of adding a DH, would rather do away with it than add it, but I'm fine with the split as it is. Disagree with making the All Star game pointless, but agree with making changes to it. I don't think players should be able to opt out. If you are an all-star, you play. No more fan votes, or at the very least, only the last 4 or something. If the games are going to be worth something, the best players from both leagues should be in it. Just my thoughts on some things in here.
