  1. sh*tty game on a sh*tty day for a sh*tty team who still continues the meaningless, yet historic streak 10 or more sh*tty hits.
  2. Penis and vagina.
  3. Can you not center all that text next time? It's harder to read it that way. Sorry. I'll make sure to change it next time.
  4. It has already been anounced that Gregg will not be closing anymore...Mopup Duty for him! yeah. and they're giving the closers job to marmol. now instead of blowing games due to a homerun the cubs will lose games by marmol walking people with the bases loaded. if i was them, i'd give angel guzman a shot since he's been their best arm this season What's the point of having your best arm as closer if your best arm is the only arm that can get you to the closing role?:lol The cub's pen is a bust this year.
  5. Let's hope the years of development pay off.
  6. Isn't tonight's Bazardo the same Bazardo who was once compared to Pedro Martinez, when he was with the Marlins organization, but never panned out? Yup.
  7. 1) Coghlan, LF 2) Gload, 1B 3) Hanley, SS 4) Cantu, 3B 5) Baker, C 6) Uggla, 2B 7) Ross, CF 8) Hermida, RF 9) West, P I'm starting to dig the new lineup.
  8. Bad, Loggy :nono You didn't walk yesterday!
  9. I'm likin the credit we deserve Call me crazy but I think our rotation is fine. JJ is the ace. Ricky has finally figured it out after the short stint in the minors. West has improved after coming back from the minors and I actually trust him more than Vandenhurk. If anibal comes back and performs the way we all expected him to (near his 2007 form) he could be a beast. As for volstad, he just needs to keep the ball down low. We are just fine. eh.
  10. He's put up better numbers than everyone on our team not named Hanley Ramirez. He's clearly better than Gaby, Gload, and Helms. @ Dim: This year, he's .852 OPS vs RHP, .866 OPS vs LHP. Career - .896 OPS vs RHP, .944 vs LHP. So, I have no idea what you're talking about there. He wouldn't play a huge role, i.e. starting, but he's better than all of our bench players. I would rather have Sheffield than Carroll. Aside from the fact that Sheffield is a veteran who has been the playoffs/playoff race before, his poor defense doesn't make up for +200 OPS. He would also allow us to absolutely stack the line-up vs LHP. Coghlan N. Johnson Hanley Cantu Uggla Sheffield Cody Paulino But in Donald's World: Coghlan 2B Johnson 1B Hanley SS Gibbons LF Cantu 3B Sheffield RF Ross CF Baker C :lol

  12. Obviously.
  13. The Giants weren't supposed to have enough hitting tocomplement their great pitching. The Marlins were said to be too young. The Rangers were at least a year away. And the Rockies, well, theyappeared to be buried back in May. Only the Marlins had a winningrecord a year ago, but they're all now genuine threats to play beyondthe first week of October. At week's end only two games separated theRockies, Giants and Marlins in the NL wild-card race, and the Rangershad overtaken Boston in the AL race. Here's a closer look at baseball'smost surprising contenders. ROCKIES What to like: Through Sunday the rotation was seventhin the majors with a 4.09 ERA, the lowest in franchise history by 49points. Troy Tulowitzki (18 homers since June 6) has rediscovered hisstroke from his rookie year in 2007. The club's run differential of +76is the game's sixth best. Surprise stat: The Rox are baseball's only team with four double-digit winners, and their 71 quality starts tops the majors. Unsung heroes: The bullpen. In the last year G.M. DanO'Dowd has acquired a closer (Huston Street), setup man (RafaelBetancourt) and lefty specialist (Joe Beimel) without giving up much.Betancourt hasn't allowed a run in nine appearances, and the pen's ERA,4.79 before his July 23 acquisition from Cleveland, is 3.46 since. What to worry about: They still have huge home-road offensive splits (48 points of batting average and 124 points of OPS). Playoff odds: Even MARLINS What to like: Their ace, Josh Johnson (12--2, 2.85ERA), is in the Cy Young discussion; shortstop Hanley Ramirez (10multihit games in 11 games since Aug. 5) is giving the team theproduction expected of a superstar; and rookie leadoff man ChrisCoghlan (a .420 hitter this month) is providing an unexpected boost. Also, Nick Johnson, a deadline addition from the Nationals, has a .500OBP with his new team. Surprise stat: Despite the loss of Kevin Gregg, last season's closer, the bullpen's 3.74 ERA is ninth best in the majors. Unsung heros: Dan Meyer and Kiko Calero. The tworelievers were cut loose by the A's within five months of each other in'08 but have emerged as forces in the Marlins' pen. Calero is strikingout 11 batters per nine, and Meyer has a 2.76 ERA. What to worry about: Their defense, long a problem, is still trouble (74 errors, ninth most in the majors). Playoff odds: 5 to 2. GIANTS What to like: That their starters, led by Tim Lincecumand Matt Cain, have the best ERA in baseball (3.56) is no news flash. That their relievers (3.42) do as well is a huge one. Surprise stat: Everybody knows what a collection of free swingers they are, but to have only 2.2 walks per game is absurd. Unsung hero: Pitching coach Dave Righetti. Sure, hehas the game's best one-two starting combo, but the consistency of therest of the staff has been remarkable. The suddenly stalwart bullpenranked in the bottom third of most major categories last season. What to worry about: Even with the summer pickups ofRyan Garko and Freddy Sanchez, the Giants are last in runs scored sincethe All-Star break. Overall they're 29th in runs and homers, and lastin OPS. Playoff odds: 5 to 1. RANGERS What to like: Their rotation has been brilliant. Thestaff's 4.13 ERA, 124 points lower than last year's, is the eighth bestin baseball. They don't hit for a high average, but they've blendedpower and speed nicely. Surprise stat: Through Sunday the Rangers had 106stolen bases, the third most in baseball, and their 84.1% success ratewas first. (They are also 9--3 against the Angels, 7--2 against the RedSox.) Unsung heroes: Scott Feldman and Tommy Hunter. Therighty-lefty power combo of Neftali Feliz (16 strikeouts, no walks, twohits allowed in his first 8 2/3 innings) and Derek Holland is thefuture of the rotation, but Feldman, 26, and Hunter, 23 (a combined17--6 with a 3.41 ERA), have kept manager Ron Washington from beingtempted to rush his prize young arms. What to worry about: Thought to have an excess ofquality catchers, the Rangers have gotten little production from theposition, and now Jarrod Saltalamacchia is on the DL with shoulderfatigue. Playoff odds: 7 to 5. Now on SI.com Joe Posnanski and Bill James debate all things baseball every Monday at SI.com/bonus http://sportsillustr...234/3/index.htm Thoughts?
  14. This is exactly why the Nationals are such a joke. This. x3
  15. how the hell did this thread get 18 replies...........wait, make it 19 Bashing 'Donald Duck' I suppose? Make that 20 :shifty.
  16. I think we're fine in that department. Looks like Smoltz is signing with the Cardinals.
  17. Carlos Mencia. I can't stand that guy. His obnoxious "jokes" are so terrible. I feel like punching squirrels when I hear his voice. Well, I do have rats living under my house in need of extermination.
  18. seriously?? the guy's a bum. ross gload is playing the role that gibbons would have played and he's done a great job. Probably better than he would have ever done as a fish.
  19. http-~~-//www.youtube.c...h?v=_H5mFUKRXIc http-~~-//www.youtube.c...h?v=-_KH8AmHVAg By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com 08/19/09 12:15 AM ET HOUSTON -- Demotions can be upsetting and painful at the time a playeris sent down, but some good can come out of them when handled properly. Thus far, it looks as if Marlins rookie Sean West made the most of hisnearly four-week stint at Double-A Jacksonville. The 23-year-old, whowas optioned after a rough outing at Arizona on July 11, was recalledand inserted into the rotation on Aug. 8. The primary reason West was sent down was to polish up his changeup andslider. The 6-foot-8 left-hander has a fastball in the 94-mph range, sovelocity isn't an issue. What was hurting him was the lack of commandon his offspeed pitches. Once word was out that he was only throwinghis fastball for strikes, big league hitters waited on the pitch anddid some damage. West has shown improvement with his offspeed pitches in his two startssince returning to the big league club. On Aug. 8 at Philadelphia, heworked four innings, but had pretty good stuff in a no-decision. Hestruck out four and walked two that day, giving up three runs (twoearned). A high pitch count, 93 pitches, led to an early exit. TheMarlins did pull out a win that day. On Thursday, West collected a win, beating the Astros at Land SharkStadium. The lefty was solid in six innings, allowing one run on fivehits. He didn't walk a batter and he struck out three. The changeup waseffective, as he threw 92 pitches, 62 for strikes. "I was pretty satisfied with it," West said of his changeup. "I wastrying to go seven [innings]. I wanted to kind of pick the bullpen up.I threw a lot of changeups. That was my go-to pitch." "The two weeks [in the Minors], I was really, really comfortable with[the changeup]," he said. "That was one of my best pitches when I firstgot drafted. That was my out pitch. But my slider has come a long waysince then. "The fastball is there. Those are the two pitches you focused onbetween starts [slider and changeup]. In the bullpen, that's what I wasfocusing on more, the changeups. It's going to be a good pitch for melater on down the road." In his two August starts, West is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings. Hehas seven strikeouts and two walks. It's a big contrast from hisnumbers in two July starts, when he was 0-2 (8.44 ERA), and allowed 10earned runs in 10 2/3 innings. He walked seven and struck out three inthose games. West grew up in Spring, Texas, in the Houston area. He grew upfollowing the Astros, and even ran the bases as a kid at the Astrodome. Now, he will make his first start ever in Texas. About 35-50 of his family and friends are expected to watch the start. "I saw a few games in the Astrodome," West said. "I never saw one hereat Minute Maid."He'll likely have to make some adjustments on Wednesday, because he isdrawing successive starts against the same team. The Marlins take onthe Astros in the second of three games at Minute Maid Park. Afterwinning 6-2 on Tuesday, they are in position to take the series. In Tuesday's victory, the Marlins extended their streak of collectingat least 10 hits to 14 straight games. The last team to have more isthe 1937 St. Louis Browns, who had 15. The Major League record is 18. Pitching matchup FLA: LHP Sean West (4-4, 4.57 ERA) West didn't walk a batter in his Thursday start against the Astros andstruck out three. This will be his 13th start, but the rookie has yetto face the same team twice. HOU: RHP Yorman Bazardo (0-0, 5.06 ERA) This will beBazardo's first start with the Astros and third of his career afterspending most of the season at Triple-A Round Rock. He allowed fiveruns (three earned) in his Astros debut on Aug. 8 and has thrown 4 1/3scoreless innings in two outings since. He was 9-6 with a 3.20 ERA in23 games (20 starts) at Round Rock this year before being called up.Bazardo appeared in one game with the Marlins in 2005 before gettinginto 14 games with Detroit in 2007 and '08. Tidbits Burke Badenhop, on the DL since Aug. 2 with a righttrapezius strain, threw two innings in a Gulf Coast League game inJupiter, Fla., on Monday. He will pitch three or four innings for ClassA Jupiter on Saturday. ... Andrew Miller, on the Minor League disabledlist with a sprained right ankle, is throwing a simulated game onSunday. The lefty will throw 60-65 pitches. ... With a single in thefirst inning, Hanley Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 13 straightgames. That matches his season high and is one shy of his career best(14 -- registered from June 24-July 7, 2008). ... Dan Uggla can checkMinute Maid Park off the list. In the fourth inning on Tuesday, Ugglawent deep in Houston for the first time in his career. Uggla now hashomered in 23 parks in his four-year career.
