  1. I really don't care if Brian Barden and Emilio Bonifacio can play multiple positions, one (or better yet, both) need to be called down to make room for Brett Carroll. It's a disgrace that Carroll isn't on the major league squad at this moment. But that would be another blow to this FO that they have failed. BC has been jerked around more often than some Jamaican beef. Barden & Bonifacio again are creations of this FO and they will be given every chance under the Sun so Beinfest can say "see I am a really great FO guy". Beinfest better hit on every draft choice from now on, because he hasn't won a trade since Hanley.
  2. Also why is Brian Barden still on the team? Lamb usually could put good wood on the ball but Barden is just awful at the plate and I'm pretty sure we could find someone who could play solid defense with at least a decent stick. We basically have 3 below average hitters on our bench in Lamb, Bonifacio and Barden but I understand Boni for speed and defensive purposes. Of course you can, but Loria won't pay for one. You had Ross Gload, but Gload wanted some $. That is when Loria shoved him out the door. And some here say Loria is committed to winning. You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time but Loria is not fooling anyone any longer. This season is exposing him for what he is, and its going to (hopefully) get him run out of MLB. He'll never turn us into a winner with his ownership & management style, as he is alienating just about everyone in baseball. His repuation is crap and that sticks with you for a long time. People in baseball gossip, and right now Loria is considered a turd by most of them. Loria will most likely have to overpay to get FA's and a good manager here because of the BS they will have to put up with. The chances that he can bring good ones down here and still be El Cheapo is zilch. With the core of players we have now, we are what we have been, about a .500 team. That is not a team that will win championships. The time is coming soon that will really test Loria, and that is when that stadium is opened. We're going to see how much he willing to pay to build a bench & bullpen and have those players that will back up the replacements for Uggla, Ross and Cantu, who I suspect all 3 to be gone by 2012. If he wants to go discount still in 2012 maybe some people will finally wake up and see this guy for who he is.
  3. What's the win/loss record of the Marlins when on ESPN or any other national channel? Since 2003 ? 0-0 ? :cool
  4. Volstad looks like crap...
  5. José Reyes can bite me ! Get that smirk off your face you twit !
  6. His pitches seem to have no speed.
  7. Yeah, making the playoffs is basically Edwin's only ticket to getting himself a job here next season. Its probably going to take at the very least 90 wins to make the playoffs. We have 37 wins after playing 77 games. That leaves 85 games left. We need to go 53-32 in those games to even have a shot...... I don't have much faith we can do that.......:confused
  8. I wonder if the opening of our new stadium will get the attention other new stadiums have gotten from ESPN ? Just this April ESPN showed an exhibition game from the Twins new digs, Target Field.
  9. They havent had a Marlins game in a while but Im positive the last time was also a weekday game, either Monday or Wednesday. If I'm not mistaken, its a fact that the Marlins have never been on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball in their entire existence. Though I believe that 2006 double header at Yankee Stadium where Anibal debuted had one of the games on ESPN. Its a damn shame too. I think we may be the ONLY team that has happened to. I can remember seeing Kansas City & Pittsburgh on Sunday's at least once. Has ESPN ever given a reason ? I mean if its they don't want to show an empty stadium, that is no excuse as we play half our game on the road. Why have they not found one Sunday night that a Marlins vs NY Mets, or vs Philadelphia, or vs Atlanta could have been found ? In like 18 years ?????
  10. This is embarrassing. Just in !!!! Video of our Front Office ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wePMYM4av6Q
  11. What does the Gulf Oil Spill have to do with sports? Don't you see Sebastian The Ibis covered in oil on the top of the page? that's a pelican
  12. It's seems all too likely why Valentine withdrew. He clearly has wanted the job for awhile but now Loria isn't willing to assure him that the team won't be broken up during Valentine's first month at the helm. This was the test of Loria's intentions all along. If Valentine got the job, it would have meant Loria was clearly committed to carrying on the run for the playoffs. If Valentine turned it down, it meant Loria wouldn't commit. Looks to me like now it won't matter who the manager will be because the die is cast for selling off. I think you have it right. It all makes sense. So lets see if Beinfest can do any better than the Cabrera trade, because if he doesn't he will be gone and we'll suck for at least 3 more years. New stadium or not, that will screw us for years.
  13. Not sure I'd say Loria is a "fan" of the Marlins in the same sense Steinbrenner is a fan of the Yankees. I'd say he's a fan of business, money, and art way before he is a fan of baseball and of the Marlins. Many people around baseball simply remember him as the reason the Nationals (Expos) aren't still in Montreal. I can see that, but I also remember (maybe distorted) his absolute euphoria in Yankee Stadium after the Marlins won the World Series in 2003 on the DVD. Well DOH ! He could see the $$$$ signs that win meant. :shifty Seriously he probably does want them to win, but I stand by my thoughts its possible this season was sacrificed for longer term goals.
  14. The article says Porter is the Marlins outfield coach........wrong. Why should I trust what else it says ?
  15. Its almost laughable. I want to see people defend Loria on this one.
  16. Loria realized no manager can fix this mess so we might as well stick with Edwin? Loria has to fix it by spending some money on a competent bullpen and bench. Or Beinfest has to fix it by securing some good talent by trading our proven players. Me thinks Beinfest will be given the task. Still, this is disappointing. That turned out really great the last time didn't it ? Great, now we'll see if Beinfest is that "above average" GM or not some here think he is (just because he made one great trade 5 years ago).
  17. Bobby Valentine is no longer in the running for the Marlins managerial position, tweets Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. Wow, if this is true I am very disappointed. Now what? Well it means we are really in the crapper. Thanks Loria, now you can't get a known MLB manager to come here because of your cheapa**ness. Hello to AAAA Marlins forever !
  18. This thread is really stupid. People also thought the Titanic was unsinkable - now that was really stupid. :thumbup
  19. Why wouldn't they just fire him in the offseason? Well that is the million dollar question isn't it ? This whole thing just doesn't seem to be making any sense. That is why I am trying to grab at straws, anything to make sense of it. Why did they fire Freddi when they did when its been obvious they didn't have anyone in place to come right in ? The timing is just screwed up and its all making the Marlins FO and Loria look even more Mickey Mouse than they already are percieved. I don't know if you relize it, most MLB fans accross the country think our team and especially owner are a joke. How also does this messy situation play out this close to the new stadium being opened ? The team doesn't seem to have any distinct plan for 2012. Its not like its a big deal to them, other than it will produce more revenue (supposedly). Did it ever occur to you that Loria actually wants to win? The team was 34-36 after an 87 win season. Loria might not spend much money, but the fact he's at almost every home game makes you think he cares, somewhat. You're making a big deal about this for no reason. Who cares? He got rid of Fredi Gonzalez, not Josh Johnson. Its a known fact Loria wanted Freddi out after last season. He talked to Valentine about it, and that is well known as well. If Loria had fired Freddi after an 87 win season, it would have been a sh*tstorm worse than after firing Girardi. He couldn't do that, as MLB would start getting involved. They do have a stake in what goes on in every one of their franchises. Not a monetary one, but they don't wish it to be a total sh*thole (Pittsburgh is an exception I guess). So perhaps they set Freddi up in the expectations that this team would tank, and then getting rid of Freddi doesn't look so bad. Not saying this is what happened, but just speculating it could have happened. Just a theory, just like the theory that Loria wants to win, we hear about it all the time, yet haven't seen proof of it for years now. :shifty

  21. Is it possible that Freddi was set up for his removal ? We know that Loria and others had talks with Bobby V in the last off-season. So the gem may have been planted at that time. Loria with his "expectations" of the playoffs, and the FO doing ZILCH to improve the team - is it possible it was all in an effort by Loria & the FO to make it easier to get Freddi out ? It would seem to make some sense. I don't think they would sabotage a season just to get Valentine in. Team goes down hill less people attend the games less $ brought in. They had an opportunity in the postseason to make the move, but different. I think it must made it easier because Valentine was still available, the team has played very inconsistently year, and the talk about Freddi potentially going to Atlanta after this season hasn't stopped in the media. And Loria has flipped/flopped on what type of managers he wants. It appears a "yes man" wasn't what he wants. I'm wondering what happens when Valentine, if he is hired, says NO to his friend, Loria. Friendship may end quickly. I would hope they wouldn't but with Loria anything is possible. I am just seeing this team become the next Pittsburgh Pirates. A new stadium hasn't solved their problems, and we look to be headed in that same direction. I don't think Loria is that stupid; it affects the bottom line. Does it really ? I am beginning to believe the critics, that So. Fla no matter what will ever support this team. Even when we have been playing well, attendance doesn't seem to increase.
  22. This is ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as you might think. This owner and FO are quite Machievellian.
