March 22, 200422 yr Cracker Jack Stadium right now the Spring Home of the Braves is made to be easily expanded to seat 45,000 by Disney if an MLB team were to ever move to Orlando. Interesting :mischief2
March 22, 200422 yr too bad MLB isnt expanding anytime in the near future. unless they are looking at suicide.
March 22, 200422 yr Author If the Marlins were to move to Orlando, I'm sure they wouldn't say no. That way in the future Miami could recieve and expansion AL team and there would be no territory fight.

Interesting :mischief2 Interesting stuff... but Disney World's Internal Freeway system is horrible... an MLB Franchise in Disney would make traveling inside Disney a nightmare...
March 22, 200422 yr Author The Disney Highway System can be expanded, I-4 is hell on pavement. Just an idea that Disney has the ballpark, the plan, the money, but no team. The Marlins are the team without a ballpark, much money, or a backup plan in case SoFla doesn't work. I don't people in SoFla would be too bitter. As soon as the Expos move and the Marlins, A's, and Twins get ballparks, expansion will continue. 2002 was supposed to see the AL expand to Orlando and the Carolinas, but it was cancelled in 1999.
March 22, 200422 yr I wouldn't mind the marlins moving to Orlando, but hopefully for you guys down south it doesn't come to that.
March 22, 200422 yr Author Hey, for me it is another hour on the ride. I go to Disney more than Miami anyway. If Miami and SoFla can't get it done, Disney will get this team. Thorne didn't say the Expos would move there, but an expansion team. But I believe Disney is looking for the Marlins because the Rays lease was cancelled by Disney without trouble when the Rays wanted to move the O-Rays to Alabama. At least they will get a nice ballpark and stay the Florida Marlins if it happens. Miami will be in the top again in the next expansion, have the ballpark money ready by then, a good ownership group and an AL team if they can't do it with the Marlins. As long as the Marlins stay in Florida, Loria has done a good job.
March 22, 200422 yr The Disney exit is very easily reached off of I-4. It's also within close proximity to the Turnpike and can also be reached fairly easy from Hwy 192 and it is only 10 miles from Hwy 27 to the exit on I-4 for Disney. The enternal road system could handle the volume of traffic that a MLB team would produce as the theme parks handle close to 50,000 cars daily between four parks and various hotels. I would also bet that Disney parking staff could handle traffic better than the parking staff at PPS. It should also be noted that the Double A team Devil Rays recently left the stadium and it will be sitting unused for the summers. Now would the MArlins spring train there? who knows? it's a workable situation if something can't be worked out in Miami and you want to keep the FLORIDA Marlins in Florida.
March 22, 200422 yr Author The Braves would probably shack with the Indians in the new Winter Haven complex like the Marlins/Cards do at Roger Dean. The Marlins have to stay at Roger Dean, or get the Expos to return there for the next 9 years.
March 22, 200422 yr Author Orlando is TV market #20, Miami is #17. Orlando has an NBA franchise, the O-Rays used to draw well for a minor league team at the park, if Miami fails give Orlando a chance to try with the team.

Not exactly a ringing endorsment for MLB in Orlando, though. Esecially with DC, Portland and the like crying bloody murder. Orlando just seems too small to me.
March 22, 200422 yr SoFo politicians and or private investors better get the lead out. I don?t want them to leave SoFo, but for the Marlins Orlando is not a bad idea. They could probably draw 10-15k (if not more) a night just in tourists, then you have local fans from the Orlando metropolitan area ? which reaches over to Daytona. Then add in central and north ?rual? Florida ? Ocala, Gainesville,? I would be amazed if the Marlins are not talking to Disney!

March 22, 200422 yr Author Orlando has Gainesville's Metro Area and Palm Beach's Metro Area within 2 hours. Fort Myers, Jacksonville and Miami within 3 hours and the tourists from Disney.
