although I've hoped for a dolphin mall site to be the future home of the marlins, after reading the post about samson's appearance on wplg, I think a ballpark next to PPS is the reasonable and fair choice for all the fans in south florida. You have to notice that the attendance problems are not because of PPS location, its because there has not been a season since 97 in which fans have had hope for a winning season. Us fans who post here surely went to the games when Paul Bako was our "stud" catcher and Mark Kotsay "superstar" outfielder, but the average fan in south florida has not been provided with a winning product for most of the marlins tenure down here. If they build a stadium in the vicinity of PPS and provide the average fan with a team that can contend year in and year out, I don't see why this location will not draw good crowds. For those from Palm Beach all the way down to Kendall, this site is the fairest for the tri-county area.

Agree

add a roof to eliminate the thread of rain, and we will be set. I voted for South of PPS...

I think the problem with the site just south of PPS other than Wayne may own it, is that the neighborhood doesn't want to change and become friendly towards the Marlins.

We'd have to go where we're most wanted. If that means Hialeah Park, Dolphin Mall, somewhere in Broward or Palm Beach counties, downtown Miami or on the Dade-Broward border then I'll accept one of those choices. The thing is since the park is supposed to seat 38,000 it shouldn't be bigger (and should be smaller) than PPS. So they should have no big problems finding a suitable site for it.

can you please tell me what is wrong with Mark Kotsay ??? ... grrrr he is a superstar in my book :whistle

... about paul bako i can understand

... and our ace was brian meadows

dunwoody / aven / kotsay .... now that was a star studded outfield , screw atlanta's outfield

either way i just want a stadium ... i dont care where as long as is less than an hour away from me ... meaning not outside of southflorida

I'd love for a stadium by Dolphin Mall. You have access from the Turnpike and 836 in addition to bus routes that lead out there. Also, there will be night life by the stadium with the mall right there. You have a movie theatre, Dave & Busters and I believe they are opening a bowling alley. It's a long shot but I think it's a great idea.

Frankly at this point....anywhere!

Just get a stadium.

I'd even travel down to that ballpark rotting away in homestead

The Dolphin Mall has hurdles, but Codina is friendly to the Marlins, built the mall, and would be happy to build a ballpark.

PPS is in a neighborhood that is like a very tamed down South Philly like where the Vet/CBP/LFF/Wachovia Center is. It is a cold neighborhood, and not the best in the area, but could host the facilities. The Marlins would have to do what the Phillies have done with Citzens Bank Park. Build the restaurants into the park.

Hialeah Park has a central location, MetroRail, owned by the city and the old track grandstand ahs shops and restaurants that could be refurbished and reopened.

I don't believe the site under consideration in the PPS area is owned by Huizenga/Dolphins properties. The site at PPS that the Marlins first wanted is owned by WH and he declined to sell or lease it to either the Marlins or the county, and both asked.

I think that the poll should be ammended to combine the "South of PPS" and "Dade-Broward county border" as PPS is at 199th st and the county ends at pretty much at 215th st (give or take its not a sraight line). For all practical purposes they are the same area. Perhaps the two can be combined and renamed " North Dade". I'll leave it to Marlinfan as to whether that's a good idea or not.

That said I'm voting for "Dade/Broward County Border" as I feel it includes the PPS area.

The Dolphin Mall has hurdles, but Codina is friendly to the Marlins, built the mall, and would be happy to build a ballpark.

I'm sorry, but you're going to have to come up with a source that states that Codina would be "happy to build a ballpark" and is "friendly to the Marlins."

Why would Codina build a park? For the "good of the community?" Armando Codina is all about one thing and one thing only, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Singlehandedly incurring the costs of building and maintaining a stadium for one tenant and some other activities does not appear to be a money making venture.

I'm sorry, but some of this stadium talk is based on these wild assumptions that are unfounded and ludicrous. I don't want to be a wet blanket on this topic, but c'mon folks, a $350M-$500M expenditure is no chump change to just throw terms like "just build it!" It's not that easy, trust me.

I never said he would build it at reduced cost. Read what I said, Codina would be happy to be hired to build the ballpark. They would have to bid, but if the land at Dolphin Mall can be had as part of the bid, it may help.

BTW, Codina and his company are big season ticket holders for the Marlins. Not suites that go to Wayne, but season tickets that go to the Marlins.

Read what I said. I only mentioned that having one developer build a stadium is not a feasible situation.

Again, do you have a published source on Codina's sentiments on building a park? Just because he and his company are season ticket holders isn't enough for you to infer that he will build a park. As a matter of fact, having actually dealt with Codina before in my line of work, they may well be the "developers" of the park in a venture with the County or City. But singlehandedly owning the land and building a stadium, trust me, Codina would NEVER do that!

We are not stupid enough to think that. But Codina wouldn't be opposed to be hired to help develop that site for the Marlins next to the Dolphin Mall and build the ballpark.

I can't believe Downtown is winning, it is not realistic that it will happen in Downtown, the land is too expensive.

I second that, it is basically the same place.

i agree the two sites should be combined. when the votes are tallied the 31st the two vote categories will be combined into one category. thanks for pointing out the error. sorry :banghead

unless there is a way to modify the poll while it's being used and combine both vote tallies. if they were combined in round 1 the ''north dade site'' would have tied for the lead.

The poll states 'where do you want the stadium?', not 'where is the stadium most likely to be built?'. That is the problem with polls - you have to be very, very specific.

I dont think Cape was suggesting that Codina would just build it for the Marlins and have them move in. I think in terms of working together to develop a project and execute it, Codina could be seen as a vital ally for the Marlins' interests here. And I think you are oversimplifying what is expressed here to sensationalize your points. Sorry, but we dont fall for that here.

I tend to agree with SoFlaFish.

I read these posts and I'm scratching my head wondering, with all of this "cooperation" how the heck can it be that a ballpark isn't already built?

I mean there's seems to be so many people that want it...why aren't they stepping up to the plate...what are they waiting for?

I'm all in favor of being optimistic, but cripes Disney just sold off the Angels and now they'll be willing to get involved with the Marlins?? Imo, that whole scenario is insane.

I don't take these posts seriously and but quite frankly I'm surprised that there aren't more people in disagreement. I just felt I needed to backup SoFlaFish.

personally, i would love for the stadium to be built in hialeah. but thats just a personal ambition. but even with that said, downtown near the water would be awesome (Even though the chances are 0-1%) i would say it may even be worth it there than in hialeah in my back yard. either one would be ideal for me. but lets get something done! thats all i really want! the rest is just details!!

I've been promoted to Triple A. I'm on my way to the majors! :D  :D  :whistle

it looks like all the votes that went for some of the sites that have been eliminated are going to the downtown site.

I am calm. I'm just being much more rational than most folks here. The statement made was "but Codina is friendly to the Marlins, built the mall, and would be happy to build a ballpark." If we're going to have a mature conversation or dialogue involving this touchy issue, I'd rather stay within the realm of facts and not speculation.

I merely asked CapeFish where he got that information from and the only response I got was "BTW, Codina and his company are big season ticket holders for the Marlins. Not suites that go to Wayne, but season tickets that go to the Marlins."

The truth of the matter is that as we stand right now there are $73M from the County from the convention/sports facility tax, and $137M from the Marlins in pledged revenues, not cash in hand. So we've now got $220M. Meanwhile, Samson says it'll cost $350M to build a retractable roof stadium. I say, "YEAH RIGHT!" Optimistically speaking the Marlins are $130M short, realistically speaking I say the Marlins are about $225M short. The City of Miami cannot just make $225M appear out of thin air. The City offered what they could and the Marlins rejected it.

We can speculate all we want about Codina and other developers. I can post here saying that the Related Group would love to be a partner in developing a ballpark area, or Swerdlow or the Stiles Group, or any other developers in South Florida. But the truth is that NO ONE. NOT A SINGLE ONE has stepped up and said ANYTHING about it.

That is my point. If that is "confrontational," then I'm sorry. This is a message board and if my point of view is not welcome because I don't simply fall in line with the "rah rah" of this message board, then there is no point in having a lively dicussion.

I realize I'm probably a lot older than most posters here, and I may be more familiar with the ways of the world. I also deal daily with local governments because of what I do for a living. I know for a fact that the Broward County Commission has NO MONEY to give for a stadium. Trust me, that came right out of Mayor Lieberman's and Commissioner Parrish's mouths to me.

So, I've now said my piece.
