March 29, 200422 yr Penny's getting more comfortable with the changeup lately. That's what I like to see. When he can get hitters thinking about that changeup in the back of their minds, that 98 mph heater will look like about 105. :thumbup
March 29, 200422 yr Im glad to see he pitched well in spring training, but now it is time for him to turn it up another notch and keep it going through the regular season. Penny really needs to step up this year. I really think that he will build on those two World Series wins. I know it was only two games but mentally it had to have been huge for his confidence which is something that every pitcher needs to be successful.

March 29, 200422 yr Thanks to all of you for your support and kind words, as far as Pavano, he has also done a tremendous job and is also a very nice guy!! Most of the guys on the team are. I think that is why there is such good chemistry. Johnnylons, I am not trying to create a bandwagon or anything else here, just a little respect for a great guy, who has had a great spring. He has struggled some in the past spring trainings, this year he didnt and he has been working on some pitches. As far as I am concerned, you arent exactly the kind of person I would care to have on my bandwagon anyway. Great - I dont do bandwagons. I create them. :cool
March 29, 200422 yr Oh please. It is spring training! Penny looks sharp. Great. I too thought he was going to win WS MVP - but he didnt because Beckett got a tough decision in one game and pitched lights out against the Yankees. There was a lot of speculation over that move that Jack made to give Beckett the ball too. Penny has a lot of talent and none of us here doubt that. So please, if you are trying to define some kind of bandwagon or create an atmosphere of disrespect for Penny in that he is being overlooked - you are overreacting. Take that junk somewhere else. look who is the negative one now. How is that negative? I didnt say Penny has no talent or that he wont execute in the regular season. I like Penny, just dont think he is being disrespected like the original post in this thread stated. Besides, did anyone notice that Penny got an article in EACH S. Fl. paper about his game yesterday and the improvements he is making? Like I said, take that junk somewhere else. And Pavano IS the most underappreciated pitcher on this staff.
March 29, 200422 yr Carl Pavano will explode this year. Mark it down. I like the way Penny is pitching. If Brad, Carl, and Josh continue where they left off when the games counted it's going to be a wild wild ride for the rest of the National League.

March 30, 200422 yr i can't believe penny lost so much weight. that will make him a better pitcher this year especially in day games. the only thing he did wrong i think tommy hutton said it the first couple innings penny wasn't pitching he threw to many fastballs when he should have been using that curveball. except for that i'm impressed with penny in the sporting news baseball preview it stated penny had ''iffy'' work habits (they were talking about his weight). he proved them wrong.

Actually, it might not be such a bad thing that hitters can make fair contact. As long as he keeps the ball on the ground the hits will be no problem for our defense. You like to see those 10 Strikeout games but I'd prefer a 1 ER, 4 Hits, 6 K, 0 BB performance to a 4 ER, 9 Hits, 11 Ks, 3 BBs. If hitters are making contact he is around the strike zone, which will minimize his Walks. The strikeouts will come regardless, cuz Brad loves dem Ks.
March 30, 200422 yr grounders would be nice but all i was trying to state was if a powe pitcher is going to go right after hitters it is a little strange for the likes of Pokey Reese to be able to stay alive instead of swinging through. just an observation.
