March 30, 200422 yr Article on floridamarlins.com says Banks will undergo knee surgery and will start the season the DL. I'm not sure how to re-post the story...hopefully someone else can. Welcome aboard Mr. Nunez. :notworthy An MRI exam taken Monday morning revealed bone fragments in his right knee. Banks is tentatively scheduled to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday. Banks will be out a minimum of two to three weeks, and a maximum of two or three months depending on the extent of the fragments. "I went in there more to clear the air that nothing was in there," Banks said. "I came out of it with bone fragments in there."
March 30, 200422 yr I didn't think Nunez was competing against Banks anyways. He was competing against the guys that could play CF - Rios (gone last week) and Gerald Williams. Can Christenson play CF? I think this is better news for Lenny Harris.
March 30, 200422 yr I have to give Wildcard credit for predicting before almost anyone that Nunez would make the team. (Don't let it go to your head kid) By any criteria Nunez has earned the opportunity to be there opening day. Congrats, he walked the walk. And I agree with 83Gator - this is great news for Lenny Harris.
March 30, 200422 yr This at least gives the Marlins some roster flexability. If Banks makes it back in a month or so we should have some idea if Nunez can play in the show. If he proves he can then we really don't risk much in sending Banks to AAA for a rehab. If Nunez can't hack it then it will be easier to sneak him to AAA and just as easily bring up Banks.
