KJC
actualy Smiley, the PSX and the PS3 are going to be different items. what the PSX is: PS2 gaming system integrated with a TiVo like DVR service and the extra Hard Drive like the one they are selling with Final Fantasy. Sony is hoping to use this as a bridge so the can postpone the REAL PS3 i still like this system though :thumbup

Watcha talkin bout Willis?
did XBox even make a profit for microsoft? That is why they are going to be taking out the hard drive in Xbox 2, to lower the production cost. Also, because the hard drive might have made them lose a certain amount of money from games, since people with a modchip can save games onto it. They are using another storage medium, I just hope it isn't a fancy name for memory cards, I never want to deal with memory cards again. Das Texan
Don't expect Microsoft to pull a Sega. if they lose enough millions they would. acutually they wouldnt.... cause sega is still very much active in games on consoles. microsoft I doubt would continue producing console games. KJC
from what i have heard the X-Box itself has not made any profit BUT that was expected. where Microsoft is making the money back (as always) is the software. games like Halo and the in company NFL game have made plenty of money... Maxx
I don't think any of the hardware companies make money off the system, they make money off of the software and licensing.

FutureGM
Nintendo's been having problems with the GameCube, it hasn't been selling well. I blame their insistence on always being behind in the CD race. When PlayStation 1 came out, the N64 was still using cartridges. Now, they use mini-discs instead of DVD-ROMS. Sega's been doing well since they decided to stick to software.
Das Texan
ya you kno... heaven forbid nintendo try to work on making their games and system harder for pirates.
QuickGold
No one makes money on consoles. They make money on games and licensing. The idea is to get your console to be #1 so every developer wants to make games for it which in turn means licensing fees.
FishFan24
Actually, the GC has sold just as many units as the Xbox worldwide. So if the GC is doing poorly, so is the Xbox. And me, I'm just waiting for GC2 and PS3 :mischief
Maxx
Yeah, but can Nintendo continue to pour the resources necessary to survive? Microsoft and Sony have the resources, you have to wonder if Nintendo will just stick to software like Sega did. Would probably be a better business move for them. The graphics on it initially weren't too much better than N64 and they clearly released an inferior system. Nintendo will soon enough stop making systems and just produce nintendo brand franchise games.

Nintendo will soon enough stop making systems and just produce nintendo brand franchise games. It would probably help their business the same way it did for Sega. They can keep making their Gameboys because that still makes them money but start making their software for every other console.

Nintendo is sitting on a Six Billion dollar treasure chest in which they can take on the big boys no problem. They didn't just blow everything that they made during the NES and SNES days :mischief
