April 16, 200422 yr I think even with all the praise we give out on this board, Rosenthal has been underappreciated. It's almost hard to remember where we were just one year ago today. Josh Beckett? Hard throwing fireballer, with decent control and a lot of POTENTIAL. Penny? Many of you were ready to unload him. Bad attitude, probably many thought he had wasted his POTENTIAL, had no idea how to pitch. Pavano? The whole world had given up on him, two or three times over. He had POTENTIAL, but was clearly a 4 or 5 at best. What a difference a year makes. Beckett is Cy young material, Penny is a #1 on many teams, and Pavano is turning into what he was supposed to be 5 years ago. What he has done with these guys is incredible, not to mention helping along Dontrelle Willis and turning bullpen scrubs into a formidable staff. ESPN's BBTN gave him some credit last night, and it was past due. There are maybe 4 or 5 positional coaches that you can honestly say make a difference, and Wayne is proving he is one of them. Along with Mazzone for Atlanta, he is able to take projects and has beens and help them realize their potential. We are very lucky to have Rosenthal, without him I'm sure we would have shown only minimal improvement from the previous years. Anybody else eager to see what he can do with AJ? http://smilies.jeeptalk.org
April 16, 200422 yr I was thinkign about that not to long ago. I give him a whole lot of credit! The guy is awesome!
April 16, 200422 yr yeah, they gave Rosenthal a lot of credit on baseball Tonight for the way the staff has performed so far.
April 16, 200422 yr After Beckett's performance on Opening Day I thought about how much of a difference Rosenthal has made over our previous coaches since Admin Rotschild, and I must say that without a doubt in my mind the Marlins have THE BEST coaching staff in the majors. From Jack right down to Cunningham to strength and conditioning coach, these guys are all 4 star caliber and higher. We are truly blessed to have the coaches we do and because of this staff I do believe this team isn't even playing its best ball yet.
April 16, 200422 yr often times the coaches go unnoticed unless they are doing a horrible job. excellent post. the coaching staff deserves mad props.
April 16, 200422 yr He has done alot to the pitching of the Marlins. He works very good with them. Hard work always pays off....
April 16, 200422 yr He has done alot to the pitching of the Marlins. He works very good with them. Hard work always pays off.... Yup. Just look at Pierre.
April 16, 200422 yr If you look back in history, this is a FACT. Behind every great pitching staff is a great pitching coach. Great post, Rosenthal deserves all the credit in the world.
April 16, 200422 yr And Miguel Cabrera Him also.-Thats why I have him on my avatar... But Juan Pierre works much harder...Miguel does good more because he just has the talent... And if neither Miguel or Juan worked hard-Miguel would still be good...but Juan worked his way up...And Jack knew that he was getting a hard working player in Juan when we got him from Col.
April 16, 200422 yr Juanpy worked his way up. He is the hardest worker in the major leagues. He is my favorite player for, among many others, that reason. But you can't neglect the hard work ethic of others on the team just because Juanpy works so hard. He is the last person that would want to have his ethic overshadowing the work of others.
April 16, 200422 yr I'm glad everybody is finally acknowledging Wayne's coaching... we are friends with him and he came over my house this past August... I haven't heard much about him lately... never really, he is up there with the best pitching coaches today, and the rotation's performance is what is making a huge impact in this year's team. Him and my bro Rosenthal and me
April 16, 200422 yr Don't be mistaken, if you don't know that Rosenthal is the reason for all this success, you aren't a Marlins fan. It's just he goes without mentioning alot of times on this board because we all already know how awesome he is and how much of a difference he makes. But I do agree, he deserves alot of recognition every once in a while, he definately is up there as one of the best in the business.
April 17, 200422 yr I agree 100% too many people were giving all the credit to the Marlins young pitchers success to Pudge Rodriguez while pudge did have an effect, it was minimal compared to that of Rosenthal.
