  1. reminded me of a spring training outing where he worked on only one or two things in order to get consistency and work on stamina did you notice how he seemed to throw pitches in bunches like 8 curveballs in a row or nothing but fastballs located in one specific area. this is exactly the way pitchers approach spring games. overall it was a good outing considering that he hasnt pitched in 13 months fastball looked live but not quite 100%, curveball had some bite on it but once again wasnt 100%. the real test is how he feels tomorrow and the day after. this outing wasnt about a win tonight but for a build up for the 2nd half stretch run. if AJ can be a full time horse again there will be a major move made and I think some of the signs are already being shown that something is going to happen. its going to be a fun summer for Marlins fans
  2. Apparently Kansas City has one week to right the ship or their GM will begin taking offers. Gammons said that the Marlins will be one of the suitors. Kansas City will want a young catcher a pitcher and a young hitter in return. I think a lot depends on how AJ performs in his return. If he is 100% I think you can see Penny/Willingham/ and Nunez????? I think we would all prefer Pavano going rather than Penny but Pavano will be cheaper to resign this off-season and I think that will factor in Also, it looks like the Marlins will be making a move for a catcher. Word is either Seattle's Dan Wilson, Toronto's Greg Myers or KC's Benito Santiago any of those guys should come relatively cheap
  3. On pace for 97 wins and all this with two regulars in the lineup hitting below .150. If we were getting ANY sort of production above the Mendoza line from Castro and Gonzalez, this team would be flirting with dominance. is asking for a .235 BA from those two guys too much??????
  4. no way a 180 pound guy is going to be more than a 12-15 homer guy in the majors best case scenario with this guy would probably be Jason Kendall and if he is putting up big time numbers in Japan, the price to sign him will probably be more than he is worth in major league value
  5. its mid-May people!!!!!! name one team that is perfect and has no question marks name one team that has not had bouts of slumping hitting or inconsistant pitching name one top team that already has their identity for the season already set in stone and is firing on all cylanders c'mon people, this team just came off a .500 road trip against two of the BEST teams in the National League WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE EXPECTING?????? sorry the team cant play at a .800 winning percentage all season long
  6. Locks if it were today Lowell Cabrera Benitez others that have a better than average chance because of reputation Castillo Beckett Pierre Guys that have to keep performing at current level to get the nod Penny Will the marlins get 7, I doubt it, but since Jack is making the roster Id be willing to bet that we get Benitez in as well as one of our starters so either Beckett or Penny (maybe even both) Castillo should win the fan voting at 2B and Lowell may not win for 3B but will get a spot without argument. Cabrera may have to get an invite because of the stiff OF competition, but if he is in the top 3 in the NL in homers come choice time for Jack, he will take him and not get any heat for it. Pierre should make it, but either him or one of our starters will likely be the odd man out. I think we are a lock for 5 spots. 6 is a good possibility, and we could get 7 but there will be a lot of complaining around the league if Jack gives us that many
  7. this started out as a good post and then got stupid when it went into projections the best way to judge Cabrera at this point would be to wait until he gets to an equal number of ABs as compared to the first FULL seasons of the aforementioned superstars. for example Pujols had 590 ABs in his first major league season AROD is tough to gauge because his first two stints in the majors were short, but to make a good comparision compare each players first 550 ABs and so on and so forth projections dont mean a thing, lets see how he continues to produce and when we have enough of a statistical sample we can then make fair comparisons and in the end, I think Miguel is going to BURY most of those guys so young, so good, so fast and so much more to come!!!!!!
  8. oops I just started a thread on this subject didnt even see this one around I think its a GREAT idea :mischief2
  9. someone was mentioning bringing Pedro in for next year Ive got what I think would be a better signing A young player who just keeps getting better and better every year and fits into our style of play almost perfectly. Carlos Beltran plug him into either left or right field (move Cabrera back to left where he looks more comfortable) With a stadium on the way, perhaps we can be a player in the Free Agent market this guy is a perfect candidate and he is eligible after this season
  10. I have watched Hermida extensively and while he is extremely talented, he will NOT be ready to join for opening day next year. he will need at least a full season of AA, he'll get half of that this year and half next year. expect a mid-season callup with a shot at making the team full time in 2006. He is only 20 years old and nowhere near ready physically and he is NOT Miguel Cabrera. give him time, let him develop. he is on target and on the fast track. but he is still only in A ball. he needs AA time and maybe even a bit of AAA
  11. all things considered players production, age, durability, team need, connection to team, or any other reason you can come up with EDGAR RENTERIA is the obvious choice anyone that thinks otherwise needs their head examined
  12. the Greensboro kids are striking out a lot but they are all 18-19 year olds that are really in their first year of playing baseball full time be patient with them and see what happens
  13. lets not get excited about Trevor Hutchinson he is essentially Justin Wayne stuff-wise but he has a little bit of a deceptive delivery
  14. Greensboro has a few guys that have a lot of potential its just that with young guys there are a lot of ifs that need to come through take note of 2B Cole Seifrig RHP Mauro Zarate LHP Jon-Michael Nickerson there are also a few guys that in extended spring training that have some potential as well RHP Jeff Allison RHP Henricus Vanden Hurk SS Jonathan Fulton and how can any marlins prospect list be complete without mentioning Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida Hermida may have started somewhat slow but he is battling a sore hamstring
  15. Beckett tried throwing his curve several times he did have any control of it today. he wasnt sharp with his fastball either basically it was just a bad all around outing it happens
  16. this has to fall as the STUPIDEST POST EVER!!!!!! every pitcher has bad outings sometimes even two or three in a row, and sometimes even more than that plus his last outing was all that bad. he had 6 innings giving up only 2 runs. he was obviously tired in the 7th and probably shouldnt have went out there for that inning. Pedro/Schilling/Clemens/CY Young/Bob Gibson. You name them. They have ALL had strings of bad outings for christs sake, the kid is 23 years old and is .500 in his career starts look at the career records of some of the best pitchers ever. many of them were a lot worse than .500 for the first few years of their careers and then went on to become Hall of Fame pitchers a few that come to mind Sandy Koufax Nolan Ryan Tom Seaver It was obvious today that Beckett didnt have any sort of control. His curveball was non-existant and he wasnt placing his fastball with his top accuracy. There will be days like this that doesnt mean he sucks or that he is over rated.
  17. bringing up Ricky and his approach to the discussion is a comparison you used him as an example to quote you "look at ricky henderson" now, as someone who scored in the 97th percentile of the Reading Comprehension section of the LSAT that looks a lot like you were using Ricky Henderson as an example for comparison in how important walks are to a leadoff hitter
  18. bringing up Ricky and his approach to the discussion is a comparison you used him as an example
  19. Ricky Henderson is not a fair comparison for this discussion the guy is generally considered to be the GREATEST leadoff hitter in baseball history he is a Hall of Famer point is, he is so far at the high end of the Bell Curve that it isnt fair to compare everyone else to him
  20. While I agree that the New Deal has been disaster that has formed the foundation of the modern Democratic Party I cant say that FDR was the worst and heres why Because there was no blue print on how to deal with the issues that we faced during the Great Depression something/anything needed to be done and he just threw a whole bunch of S!!! at the wall and some of it stuck. but at least he had the courage to do something My vote went for Johnson when all is said and done I consider Truman the best president on the list followed by Nixon then Reagan. The rest all float between bad and neutral. Its way too soon to judge Bush IIs presidency. The only thing I can say for 100% certainty about him is that if he was a Democrat he would be hailed as the greatest president after Bill Clinton and as for the one reason why Clinton should be hated how about selling classified top secret nuclear missle guidance systems to the Chinese. I think that more than qualifies as a reason to hate him.
  21. Im sure everyone remembers the story about the NFL player who walked away from a 3.6 million dollar contract to join the Army Rangers in the wake of the 9/11 tradegy. Unfortunately, he was killed in Afganistan today when his platoon was attacked. While all of our men and women put forth a tremendous sacrafice when they join the military. This man sacraficed a lifestyle that most of Americans dream about having; millions of dollars in the bank, the adulation of being an NFL player, and a bright future after his NFL career (he graduated summa cun laude from Arizona St with a degree in Marketing) He gave this all up for his love of his country and his belief that he could better give of himself defending us and our way of life in what he felt was a time of need rather than having us cheer for him on the field. This was a great human being and we should all take a moment to honor him and really appreciate what he did for all of us and why. May God Rest His Soul
  22. Ichiro is the only guy that I can say Id rather have leading off over Pierre but thats it just that one guy another thing that shouldnt be forgotten about Pierre being on base. I mentioned this earlier but Ill mention it again. When Pierre is on the basepaths the hitters after him are going to get more fastballs which makes anticipating as well as hitting a heck of a lot easier this fact can not be underestimated
  23. Lowell stays healthy????? I love the guy but this statement is false
  24. this stat says it all last year when JP got on base twice a game the Marlins played .750 ball when he got on once they played .600 ball when he didnt get on base the Marlins played .400 ball that says a whole lot about JPs importance to the Marlins is he the prototypical leadoff hitter? in some ways yes in some ways no HOWEVER what JP does cause with his speed is he gives the hitters hitting after him the opportunity to see more fastballs JP's style as a leadoff hitter may not be for every team. But to the Marlins he is their MVP and thats all that matters to us
  25. he makes $750,00 because he is a left-handed starter and honestly, who cares how bad he sucks HE IS OUR 5th STARTER!!!!!!!!!!!! if he goes 10-12 we should be more than happy and you people need to get AJ Burnett out of your head. no need rushing him back just because our 5th starter wont go 15-10. let burnett come back when he is ready and chances are he wont even make a start this year unless we are either out of contention come August or so far in the lead that we are safe
