he is just a stopgap till Allen James is ready exactly. and a plus is that he swings the bat well.

he had a 5.04 ERA last year pitching in colorado, i gotta belive when all is said and done his ERA will be under 5 for this season. as long as the match ups work out to where we are facing the other team's 5th starter most of the time i think it'll be ok.

That's pretty mean to say that he sucks. I don't think he sucks at all and I still think that he will improve. I'd like to c u get up there and pitch!

But we're not gettin paid almost a million dollars to play baseball.

As long as our bats are hot when hes on the mound I will be fine. But everytime he struggles like he did today, the wait for A.J. becomes even longer, cant wait to see him back on that mound.

and furthermore......

how oliver warrants 750K in salary is beyond me.

he's a vet you can't give him much less than that. Look he's our temporary 5 starter, you can't expect too much. Who would you have do the job had we not signed him?

I know I would have had Michael Tejera be the 5th starter.

However, even Justin Wayne would have worked in this role. The Marlins originally wanted him to be a starter anyway.

he is just a stopgap till Allen James is ready Exactly! It would be nice for Oliver's ERA to be in the 4s but he is the scrub of our staff and is just holding it down until AJ is back. He isn't awful, but he is a decent major leaguer and isn't doing awful.

Tejera?

Yes, he was a starter throughout his minor leauge career. He even won the Best Pitcher Award for the Eastern League in 1999. I think he's more suited for starting than in the bullpen.

if a 5.89 ERA isnt awful...

I would hate to see what awful is.

Like Ramps been trying to stress, it's not like we really WANT him to be our starter...we just need someone to fill in until AJ comes back.

We all have realized he's not exactly the best pitcher out there but fortunately, our offense has been able to make up for the runs he gives up.
