I'm watching Baseball Tonight right now and they said Juan Pierre is without a doubt the best leadoff batter in the league :) .

RESPECT

they already showed the Phillies-Marlins high lights???

It's too bad no one on Baseball Tonight has a clue.

Yep, they showed the Phillies-Marlins highlights like 2 minutes into the show about 20 minutes ago.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

yeah right watch out for pierre and his monster .306 OBP

as a leadoff guy, he sucks. he can't even get one walk every ten at bats

Tisk tisk.... all the negativity.....

I am going to bed. Good night.

its not all about obp ALL THE FREAKIN TIME

watch a damn game, dont just look at numbers 24/7

its not all about obp ALL THE FREAKIN TIME

watch a damn game, dont just look at numbers 24/7

for leadoff guys, only two stats matter:

OBP

Walk/ AB ratio

OBP

Walk/ AB ratio uh hello, speed?

# of walks is totally useless

JP's obp was .361 last year with 65 SB's. that's pretty badass, and it doesnt even tell you about his baserunning when 2-3-4 get hits.

don't hate... JP 0wns.

OBP

Walk/ AB ratio oh here we are with the numbers guy

the leadoff guy only "leads" off probably a little more than once a game doesnt he?

whatever you seem to have all the answers, but instead of watching THE GAME, you insist on studying numbers to evaluate players

High walks, low strikeouts, and power. That's all that matters

That's right. Believe that...

watch a damn game i do watch the game, but if you analyze and evaluate players by watching, you can't be objective. The only objective way to look at it is to look at the numbers

And Juan Pierre is a below average player. Last year his OPS was .734, and his lifetime is .725. 'nuf said

one thing i'll give him is he doesn't strike out much

for a leadoff guy?

walks are completely, utterly useless for a leadoff guy.

low strikeouts? JP had the lowest strikeout pct in all of baseball.

power? for a leadoff guy? for what?

Juan Pierre is below average now?

the only thing below average about him is his homerun power :lol

but believe what you want, believe that JP does not make this team go round

believe it..... keep looking at those numbers and thinking some other guy is better

you are just fooling yourself

Mays660 thinks all leadoff men should be like Brady Anderson I guess

man, you know your numbers but you DONT KNOW BASEBALL

Mays660 thinks all leadoff men should be like Brady Anderson I guess

no, but brady anderson would make a better leadoff guy than Juan Pierre. he has a higher career OBP and draws more walks, all that matters for a leadoff guy

Can someone pull our team OPS last year? I'm sure it wasn't the best in baseball. What about team ERA? Maybe 10th in the MLs? I guess we won a championship doing little, disruptive things, as every analyst, player and coach agreed upon. Who is considered the unquestioned master of these things?

J "Motha-Effin" P

Please. Walks don't mean anything. Are you telling me that if two players had nearly identical OBPs last year the player with more walks is better? Isn't that just crediting a player twice for a walk and penalizing a player whose additional hits drive in runs?

For some reason I believe if pitchers didn't inflate Barry Bonds' walk totals by always intentionally walking him and pitching to the career .297 hitter that this shmuck wouldn't be so interested in walks.

P.S. Pitches per plate appearance >>> Walks

this stat says it all

last year when JP got on base twice a game the Marlins played .750 ball

when he got on once they played .600 ball

when he didnt get on base the Marlins played .400 ball

that says a whole lot about JPs importance to the Marlins

is he the prototypical leadoff hitter? in some ways yes in some ways no

HOWEVER

what JP does cause with his speed is he gives the hitters hitting after him the opportunity to see more fastballs

JP's style as a leadoff hitter may not be for every team. But to the Marlins he is their MVP

and thats all that matters to us
