Baseball Tonight says Juan Pierre is the...

Featured Replies

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how he disrupts the base paths and how he gets into a pitchers mind whether hes going to steal or not. Its a mind game out there when JP gets on and that cant be shown on stats bonds rider.

Just watch games before you just throw out stats there.

Wait did this formula work to win a WS for us did the Giants formula work for them.

thank you and now go home and worship your Bonds memorbilia.

Da Hreat One- THANK YOU!!!

As for mays-no, but brady anderson would make a better leadoff guy than Juan Pierre. he has a higher career OBP and draws more walks, all that matters for a leadoff guy

Thats not all that matters, did u ever even see this guy play?? He is a MASTER on the bases. Becuz of him stealing bases we get runs scored in, he also messes with with the minds of the opponents. He is EXTREMELY valuable, too bad you're too blind to see that.

I'm not going to even waste my time with such an easily won argument.

Juan Pierre is below average now?

the only thing below average about him is his homerun power :lol

but believe what you want, believe that JP does not make this team go round

believe it..... keep looking at those numbers and thinking some other guy is better

you are just fooling yourself

Pierre was 128th in ops last year. 128TH dude, they said he was the best lead off hitter in the leauge. not the best all around hitter in baseball, who do you think is the best lead off hitter in basball then?

can you name me 5 lead off hitters in the leauge that are better or that you would rather have at the top of the line up? because i can't.

Ichiro is the only guy that I can say Id rather have leading off over Pierre

but thats it just that one guy

another thing that shouldnt be forgotten about Pierre being on base. I mentioned this earlier but Ill mention it again.

When Pierre is on the basepaths the hitters after him are going to get more fastballs which makes anticipating as well as hitting a heck of a lot easier

this fact can not be underestimated

High walks, low strikeouts, and power. That's all that matters

for a leadoff guy?

walks are completely, utterly useless for a leadoff guy.

low strikeouts? JP had the lowest strikeout pct in all of baseball.

power? for a leadoff guy? for what? Walks are very important for a leadoff man...look at Henderson.

Ricky Henderson is not a fair comparison for this discussion

the guy is generally considered to be the GREATEST leadoff hitter in baseball history

he is a Hall of Famer

point is, he is so far at the high end of the Bell Curve that it isnt fair to compare everyone else to him

Agree 100%

Ricky says Ricky doesn't like it when people compare Rickey to anyone else. Ricky thinks Ricky is the greatest lead off of all time, and no one should argue with Ricky about that.

Agree 100% wow.

I was simply showing that walks are a VERY important facet of a leadoff hitters game. There was no comparing. READ.

bringing up Ricky and his approach to the discussion is a comparison

you used him as an example

to quote you

"look at ricky henderson"

now, as someone who scored in the 97th percentile of the Reading Comprehension section of the LSAT

that looks a lot like you were using Ricky Henderson as an example for comparison in how important walks are to a leadoff hitter

You are correct. I used him to show that a walks are important to a leadoff hitter. Not to compare him to Juan F Pierre.

A walk is a good as a base hit for a lead off guy. In JP's case, he can turn the gift into a defacto double fairly easily.

I've been quite pleased that Hip Hop has learned to take the gifts rather than go down with a lot of K's like some other "power" hitters.

You realize only the very cream of baseball hitters can go for HR and not strike out a substantial part of the time? And I think even if Juan tried at every PA to hit a HR he'd maybe hit 3 in a season.
