amazing how Wayne H does not own the team but probably makes more money off the Florida Marlins than the actual owners do between his $166,666 monthly check from the state his digustingly unfair lease agreement with the team the concessions/advertising/and parking revenues from the stadium on home games and the ownership of the the Sunshine Network which televises the games why bother owning the team and having to bear the brunt of the operating expenses. the florida marlins is still a cash generator for good ol' Wayne

We had success with what we had. Our batters may not have been guys that worked the count but they are guys that make good contact this whole thing about getting guys to look at more pitches I think is taking away our aggressiveness another point, take juan pierre for example he has been hitting more pop outs in the past week than I have seen him hit all last year. let pierre work with the pitches he knows how to work with to get hits rather than putting him in situations where he has to swing at pitches he maybe cant work with because he is backed into a deep count. cause in the end whats really better a lead off guy that gets 165 hits and 60 walks or a guy that gets 205 hits and only 25 walks? the point being Robinson shouldnt be tweaking with certain guys in their approach

it seemed to me in that game that Ortiz was getting 3 extra inches in all directions of the strikezone which is huge because their is a big difference in the approach a hitter takes when he is down 0-1, 0-2, 1-2 and when he is ahead 2-1, 1-0, 2-0 Ortiz never had to make a pitch in this game

hmmm funny how the same people who were touting the hell out of this team a week ago now have nothing but criticism my prediction is at the end of this week all those people who are now criticising will be back on the other end of the spectrum

I was very worried Conine because of age issues however Conine lost 10-15 pounds due to a viral infection. thats why his bat is slow. he is physically worn out. he shouldnt be playing right now so that he can recuperate but I wouldnt be worried about him long term

the difference is that Oliver isnt a top quality pitcher that should be trusted to get out guys that are all-star caliber hitters in key situations the second Giles ripped that double, that bullpen shouldve sprang into action if it was any of the other 4 marlin starters I would agree with you but not Oliver and this is no knock against him as a pitcher, you have to play the situation

I know hindsight is 20/20 but I think once Giles hit that solid double off of Oliver that Jack shouldve had Bump jump into warming up then have rosenthal go out and talk to Oliver (to give Bump warm up time) then have Oliver pitch around Chipper, not intentionally walk him, but not give him anything to hit (once again to waste time plus you may even get him to swing at some bad stuff and possibly get him out) if he is disciplined and takes the pass to make the siutation a force play with runners on first and second. Once Andruw Jones comes up, put Bump in to set up a righty-righty matchup rather than the Lefty-righty matchup Oliver gave you 5 2/3 of quality pitching. The heart of the order was coming up and if there was any sign that Oliver was going to get hit up, he shouldve been yanked we are not dealing with one of your better pitchers here. I really think McKeon hung Oliver out to dry but to Jacks defense, oliver was pitching well and there were two outs but again, its our 5th starter going into the heart of the order and he just got hit pretty hard by Giles and the situation shouldve been changed to a righty-righty battle in a force out situation

the fact is, youre not going to get 5 Becketts in your rotation teams need a guy that can eat up 200ish innings and give you somewhere in the neighborhood of a .500 record all you want from those guys is a chance to win the games he pitches. youre not expecting him to get the win on his own, like you sometimes expect from your #1 or #2 starter. Oliver gave us a chance to win tonight, you cant ask anymore from him he gave up 3 runs with 2 outs in the 6th. he pitched very well for his role

the key at bats were Conine in the 2nd where he struck out with guys on second and third even a sac fly wouldve helped and AGone King in the 8th w/ Nunez on 3rd

our 5th starter gave up 5 runs and we still had a good chance to win cant ask more from YOUR 5TH STARTER!!!!!!

no kidding HE IS OUR FIFTH STARTER PEOPLE!!!!! if he goes 10-12 it is a good year and if he does that you can bet we will make the playoffs

I agree 100% too many people were giving all the credit to the Marlins young pitchers success to Pudge Rodriguez while pudge did have an effect, it was minimal compared to that of Rosenthal.

Earlier today I sent him an email in an attempt to persuade him to see the error of his views about the Florida Marlins and their fans. In no way was I vulgar or accusatory I got a response a few hours later in which he basically said that he was entitled to his opinion and his basis of facts for that opinion is not incorrect I responded by telling him that he is indeed entitled to his opinion and that I was only trying to point out some things to change his mind. I told him that its now obvious that nothing I can tell him can persuade him so the only thing that will do it will be the continued success of the Florida Marlins on the field. I was shocked to see that I got an actual response from him. what was disappointing was the arrogance of that response. Especially considering that I only gave the man hard fact statistics to prove my point. I offered no opinion, just facts

cant fault a guy for the way he handles himself. thats how he feels comfortable and focused. and if that means that during a game he comes across as the meanest guy in the world than so be it but I dont remember Roger Clemens being a smiley guy on the mound, as he has gotten older he has gotten a little more easy going and he is still pretty much an iron face

oh definitely, he sure has a ways to go to get to Prestons level but theres no question that the athletic ability is there I mean the guy got a full scholarship to go to Stanford to play both football and basketball so on top of his athletic ability, he also has to be pretty smart to be able to get into stanford. cause they dont take players based purely on athletic ability, they have to qualify to get into the school as well

AJ is probably not going to be ready to "start" anytime soon and I dont think we should rush him back, we'll do great without him and when he is ready we will be better than great. the point is that if we dont really need him, why risk losing him permanently let him ease himself back in slowly cause he would make a great guy to have in middle relief until he is ready to throw 80+ pitches a night imagine having to face one of our starters for 6 or 7 innings and then have to face AJ for 1 or 2. solves a lot of problems and lets AJ take his time in coming back while still getting good work in while not over straining himself. plus he will be filling a BIG need
