TSwift25
I mean, I know we're both very good teams, but are we a rivalry? I hate the Phils, but none of the players seem to hate each other...yet. Besides, it's so onesided right now that people I was talking to during the game predicted the Marlins would win, even after the Ledee HR. Thoughts? PBMarlin
As Mike Lowell stated after the game, it felt like play-off atmosphere out there tonight. Anytime these two teams meet this year it is going to be tense...because both teams realize the other is likely the team to beat to win the division. Same goes with the Braves. So is it a rivalry.......it is more like a rivalry in the making.

farmer_fran
:mischief2 It's the Yankees-Red Sox of the NL. Exciting games just the same team wins all the time.
bman8316
Yeah I think that the intensity is always up when the two teams play against each other. But it is really hard to consider something a "rivalry" when it is so one sided.
Marlins2003
It's not really a rivalry although we both want to win the East, preferably by crawling over the mutilated carcass of the other. What makes this interesting and newsworthy is the number of consecutive wins we have against them. It's the streak more than anything. D-Train35
It's only one sided at the moment. A couple years back the Phils had the same kind of string against us (including sweeping a 5-game series at the Vet). This is the marlins biggest rivalry, plain and simple. I remember that sweep...marlins were jus startin to get going and were never the same after that right before all star break...damn the phils...then I remember the last 17 of 19 games and smile
MMG
One of the best lines I ever heard when someone was asked about the Sox/Yanks rivalry: Sure it's a rivalry, much like a rivalry between a hammer and a nail.

I actually preferred the analogy of the Roadrunner and Coyote. Ingenious plans (Bill James, sabermetrics, etc) that just blow up in Boston's face... FishFan_in_CT
I'm a fan of the Charlie Brown trying to kick the football out of Lucy's hold myself, they just keep getting their hopes up like they are going to win, or something...
RockyMountainMarlin
FK THE PHILLIES! Honestly, I never really cared for them until they were picked to win the NL East.

jonnylons
Is the Red Sox and Yankees really a rivalry? That too seems to be more one-sided. And as an FSU student, I have seen rivalries up close. I have gone to UM/FSU football games - and that has sadly become a one-sided contest (thanks to UM's neverending luck with field goals - but I dont believe in a curse!). FSU/UF has become one sided though too. All I know is that I hate UM, I hate UF and I hate the Phillies and Braves. I also hate the Knicks. And to prove my point, on my fantasy teams you will find NONE of the players of those teams on my team (unless there isnt a whole lot of choice - but I am feverishly trying to trade Pat Burrell!!). Keep the Phillies under our foot. Sweep them tonight and crush their spirits even further.
FreshFish
Yes it is a true rivarl. We are owning them this and last year, but they have pretty much owned us before. We have played 163 against the Phills in our short history. They have won 85 and we have won 76. We are still on the losing end.
QuickGold
Any game between one of your division rivals is always a heated affair. Phils games just make it more interesting. I'd call it a rivalry, especially after last season.
