sorry if this is dense, but everyone here keeps talking like the stadium is a done deal. on ESPN.com, they are saying that they're making an announcement later today about the state financing, and if they don't get that financing, it's a dead deal. what's am i missing?

That's ESPN for you..... They don't know jack s***, in my opinion ESPN has been loosing a lot of credibility this year with the coverage they are providing of MLB this year. They really DO NOT LIKE the marlins. Leave it to them to write an article that only says teh NEGATIVE things about this stadium deal.

they are under the assumption that if the state does not grant the rebate, the marlins will leave. However, Arriola, Samson and others have been hinting that if the state does not go through with the rebate this year, they will try again next year. Moreover, there is a possibility that construction could commence on October 1 and the marlins will just go back next year with the right timing and the right number of lobbyists and get this rebate which is granted for each team and finally get this deal done.

so, in everyone's opinion, what happens if\when 5pm passes and we do not have any money from the state?

do they:

A) go ahead starting the construction, under the assumption that $30 million is a small enough gap that it will be filled somehow, probably by the state next time it's in session

B) wait to begin construction until the senate is back in session, and see if they can get money then

(i won't even include option C, which would be moving the team somewhere else, b/c we all know that's not happening... :cool )

yeah but they certainly don't want to get themselves in a position where they start construction, are COUNTING on getting a 30 or 60 million tax rebate next year, and then WHAM the state turns them down again.

they'd better have a Plan B to make up the difference.... and at this point I don't know where that would come from.
