May 4, 200422 yr I dont want Cordero...If we have to give up our best reliever out of the pen (even better than Graves in my opinion), then I want the best in return that will help our future. Lol...I feel sorry for your team if they take Either Nunez or Cordero. Most people here LOVE Nunez. But.... [bEGIN OPINION] I don't think he will ever amount to anything in this league. I don't think he can hit the ball at the Major League Level he has not shown good plate presence, he has 12 StrikeOuts in 36 Carerr AB's with 0 Extra Base Hits. He feasted on pitching in ST, but ST is just that....mostly unconditioned players or minor leaguers. Granted he has not had much playing time in his career, but from what I have seen he does not have what it takes to succeed in this league. [END OPINION] Of course I could be COMPLETELY wrong.....that's why it's an opinion EDIT: In fact I hope I am wrong... I hope he is succesful but I doubt it.

Thirty-six at-bats it roughly a week and a half worth of ab's for a full-time starter, and considering he has spent most of them coming off the bench (which is is not used to), I don't think it's very fair to base your thoughts of him on that. I believe the guy needs a freakin' chance (i.e. more than 36 career at-bats) to prove what he can do before people start forming opinions. When I've seen him, it's looked like he has a good eye at the plate, and has battled. He also has good speed and plays some good defense. The only numbers I'm going to form my opinion on are from triple-A, Winter Leagues, and ST, where he played everyday and got a chance to prove himself (by the way, he absolutely dominated all three). I think if he got the same opprotunity in the majors, he'd put up decent numbers.

When you add-in Nunez' handful of 2002 September at bats (and I'll be the first, in fact I've posted here several times, how bad he looked in 2002) to make your point it reminds the reader how prejudiced you are against the guy and it diminishes your credibility as a poster on this subject and every other. Ignoring his performance since July of last year, when he returned from the DL and started playing regularly, his outstanding winter league and spring training contributions, further illustrates how much you dislike the guy.
May 4, 200422 yr I think its less loving Nunez and more wanting to see if he can be an everyday OF. Spot starting won't tell us anything. That said I'd pull the trigger on this deal.

There are some wishful thinkers here. I really think that to pull this trade the Marlins would have to give up a blue chip prospect, or a solid bench player (Nunez) with a decent prospect.

I'm in agreement. Let's not forget that the Dominican league is the most competitve Winter League. You get a good amount of major leaguers (Tejada, Bartolo Colon, Castillo, Furcal, Ortiz, and many more)

And what you're saying comes without prejudice? Fine, throw out those AB's in 2002.... This is still just my opinion, I have not liked what I have seen at the plate this year so far. He has had a couple of nice AB's where he battled, but he has had more bad ones where he swung at pitches way out of the zone and looked foolish. Anyhow, I am well aware of the numbers he put up in the minors and in Spring Training. But those numbers mean abolsutely nothing to me and in the end of his career those numbers will matter even less. For now they give him VALUE, I am just not buying into it (I HOPE FIR HIS SAKE I AM WRONG). If they can get something for him in a proven releiver like Reidling then I would take that in a heart beat and consider it a steal. Again this is MY OPINION. I know how much you like the Kid Marlins2003 and I knew youd take a shot at me for that post.
May 4, 200422 yr I dont understand how you can just discount the stuff he's done in both the winter leagues and spring training. He hasn't recieved a fair major league evaluation yet and in my opinion those numbers indicate he will be at least average.

We are contending for the playoffs here this is not a team that is rebuilding. My point is to be succesful he needs to prove himself at the major league level, on this team it's going to have to be off the bench. If he can't cut it off the bench his numbers will not look good and his value will decrease, his chacnes of getting a starting role will diminish.

May 4, 200422 yr I know how much you like the Kid Marlins2003 and I knew youd take a shot at me for that post. If you went back over the past year or so you'd find that I've been more negative than positive on the guy but I admit his performance since last July has changed my opinion. Some of us blossum last in life and he seems to have done that. The Abraham Nunez who showed in Sept 2002, all jitterbugging at the plate and seemingly lost, appears to matured into a fine (if slightly aged) prospect (the word used in a generic sense). My interest in him is as much economic as anything. At his pay range for the next three years, and knowing how frugal the Marlins need to be until the stadium revenue stream starts to kick in, I think he is a potentially valuable commodity that I wouldn't be so quick to jettison. He's able to play all three OF positions, in fact CF is his natural position, and to me that's a real bonus. As for you thinking ("knowing") I would "take a shot" at you, in no way is it personal. My response would have been the same regardless of who posted the comments you made.

I understand that, I did not take it personal, just saying that I expected you to defend him and I just figured you would say something about credibility. Anyhow you have valid points, I repsect your opinion and I hope your right and I am wrong. But it doesn't change the way I feel about him now. Shamrock in response to your comment, I think he has been a NON-factor this year off the bench, he has not been horrific but he hasn't done anything that makes me want him in the line-up over anyone else.
