May 4, 200422 yr Chad Fox was off to a spectacular start as Florida's primary set-up man until apparently hurting his elbow by throwing 39 pitches April 21, while working for the fourth straight day. Fox, who has already had two Tommy John surgeries, admits he's worried. And so are the Marlins, who have talked to the Reds about swapping outfielder Abraham Nunez for reliever John Riedling. Fox did attempt to pitch three more times after that April 21 outing, allowing five runs in 1 2/3 innings. The amazing thing, said one scout who saw the final appearance, is that "he was still throwing 93-95 mph, on back-to-back days. But his breaking balls were going in the wrong direction." Credit:ESPN
May 4, 200422 yr I don't buy this Nunez for Riedling deal. For one, if we were shopping Nunez, wouldn't Nunez have gotten a few more starts to showcase what he can do? Maybe we are shopping Cordero.

Well, if the Reds are looking for an OFer, surely Cordero didn't impress them with his lack of skill in LF this past weekend.
May 4, 200422 yr Why would the reds trade for another OF?Could it be Cordero who they really looking at?
May 4, 200422 yr Why would the reds trade for another OF?Could it be Cordero who they really looking at? Because Jr hasn't been healthy and Romano a career .194 hitter is backing him up.
May 4, 200422 yr I think Kearns is hurt as well. But so far the Reds have been competitive and Riedling has been good so I doubt they give him up.

Have you looked at depth Reds have in OF?Not to mention Smitherman who I was hoping the Marlins acquire him via trade(Last year with all the rumors of Penny going to reds.).
May 4, 200422 yr Author If we do trade nunez it wouldnt be such a good idea ,for one hes a good hitter and also connie has a messed up back early into the season.

May 4, 200422 yr If Nunez leaves then our OF would not be in good shape. Conine can not play 160 games anymore.
May 4, 200422 yr Why would the reds trade for another OF?Could it be Cordero who they really looking at? I don't see why they'd want Cordero. Casey plays first and they can put Adam Dunn there too.
May 4, 200422 yr we have to give in order to receive. there is no free lunch. We either trade quality prospects or I don't think a deal could be done. I don't think Nunez alone will get this done. And don't even mention Cordero. We had many opportunities to get an additional arm from FA at decent prices during the off season, but we didn't do it.

May 4, 200422 yr I agree that we shouldnt trade Nunez if we will need him to play LF. Conine is not going to be productive for 160+ games a season and certainly is not going to play that many. We need someone to spell him every four days or so. Unless we have plans to put Easely out there in LF, I dont think we should deal Nunez. But, we do have Banks coming back from injury right now, last I checked, and we could even deal Easely - who has been very productive in limited time. This team has a lot of options to acquire another arm. But I think we will dip into our own farm system. Maybe Ben Howard?

I mean hell he started Cordero in LF the other day instead of Nunez. Maybe he just REALLY likes Cordero though.
May 4, 200422 yr If I were the Reds, I'd go for Cordero over Nunez. Cordero is a proven hitter, and when Kearns comes back, they can play him in the OF or at 1B, an option they don't have with Nunez.
May 4, 200422 yr What ever happened to Wily Mo Pena? Poor guy just wants playing time. Mo Po cant hit a curve ball if he had an ironing board.

If they're going to trade reidling, it's going to be for players that can help them in the future. I can't believe so many people think we could get so much for Cordero. He's a 33-year old bench player.
May 4, 200422 yr I dont want Cordero...If we have to give up our best reliever out of the pen (even better than Graves in my opinion), then I want the best in return that will help our future.

Conine is not guaranteed to stay healthy.
