May 15, 200422 yr If Beckett think his made it...He's so wrong. The kid look like his not workin on his craft. IMO he's not studying the scouting reports and really looking like a guy who thinks "hey I'm Beckett I've made it." first, How does he pitch Lankford a first pitch fastball, when that's his emo fastball first pitch swinger. 1-0 redbirds second, How do you give a light hitting hitter like Luna a curveball with a 1-2 count? Just little thing I've pick-up. Either this Hollywood thing has gone to his head or his upset over the pay cut in the offseason, but his not our ACE...not even close. The birthday boy better look in mirror and see that the guy in the mirror is NOT the same guy we saw in October. This may be harsh, but the kid has not pitch well at all since the first game of the season. :confused

May 15, 200422 yr Author ramp, you know how it is, you point out problems with the team like the catcher position or your ACE is not playing like an ACE, and everybody starts with the why are you trashing our guys or its early. Just pointing out some problems thats all.
May 15, 200422 yr I might be in the severe minority and we won't see it right away, but..... Our Ace hasn't pitched this season.

May 15, 200422 yr Beckett has a history of being unable to concentrate on the mound. Could his recent visit home and upcoming birthday affected him?
May 15, 200422 yr Josh Beckett is not our ace. He's good, but not our ace. Burnett is. Hell, Penny is better than Beckett. If you want to admit it or not, Penny is better than Beckett. Penny has had time to mature and has put it all together. Beckett hasn't... YET. Beckett has potential, but one WS never made a player great. Still has PLENTY to prove.
May 15, 200422 yr oliver is our ace there ya' go Maybe for the Bad News Bears. I would still take the tom boy though over Oliver. She could pitch!

May 15, 200422 yr I don't know if it has anything to do with the loss of Pudge, but Beckett just hasn't been that pitcher that he was in Game 5 of the NLCS and Game 6 of the WS last year. I know that being WS MVP and dating a hottie like Leeann and everything gets to you...but come on! :banghead
May 15, 200422 yr we have more than 1 ace Juanky Ace 1A has yet to pitch Ace 1B isn't putting up numbers Ace 1C is #1 right now
May 15, 200422 yr we have more than 1 ace Juanky Ace 1A has yet to pitch Ace 1B isn't putting up numbers Ace 1C is #1 right now 1C is Pavano or Penny? Probaly Penny but Pavano is pitching lights out as well.
May 15, 200422 yr Well it might just be that Beckett got hot at the right time last year. He is only a .500 pitcher so far. He has a lot to learn about the game and all this fame I'm sure is not helping.

All Four Horsemen, when they are on, can dominate ANYONE.

He has a lot to learn about the game and all this fame I'm sure is not helping. Maybe he just doesnt get up for the regular season? Come to think of it though he shows great passion on the field so there goes that theory. I am sure Mckeon will get on Becketts back about his performance to date. Oh ya Oliver is probaly a 5F?
May 15, 200422 yr I think it just has to do with his pitches. He wasn't throwing the change that well in the first couple of innings today (I didn't see the meltdown late, sorry) but when he started picking it up again the Cardinal hitters could do nothing. The key to both Penny and Beckett, since they are three pitch pitchers, is the change. No matter if the fastball and curve are working well, if they aren't throwing the change well they won't beat good offensive ballclubs like the Cards. Sometimes when it didn't work before, they used to just resort to saying "You want to beat me, hit this" and throwing it 96 down the heart of the plate. Recipe for a 450 foot blast. They both evolved as pitchers when at different points last year they learned to use the change effectively and consistently, and they had a pitch to baffle hitters with. Penny has stuck with the change. We've seen it every start this year. He has gotten past his old mental problems (pitching in the day, pitching against certain teams, etc.) because he has remained a pitcher no matter what the problem. He has learned that to be successful in the majors for an extended period of time you need to be able to fool hitters, and that is what the change does. Josh, on the other hand, did this all of last year but apparently only does it every once in a while this year. One can only hope that he was distracted and felt like showing off today, but Pavano has a hot girlfriend too and he is doing very well. Extracurricular activities are no excuse. If Josh doesn't always use the change to mask the fastball and make the hook more effective then he will continue to be bashed because hitters will identify pitches more easily. Simple as that.
