May 29, 200422 yr I think AJ is coming Wednesday for sure, regardless of today. His return will be a huge boost to the team (moral wise at the minimum) and to the fans it will be insane. Ugggggghhhhhhh I want Wednesday to come so bad. On a side note, I should be going to my first game of the year in June. Probably the White Sox. Ozzie Guillen is gonna get quite an ovation. Maybe the Rangers though. I'd like to see R.A. Dickeys "Thing." And I made that sound terrible on purpose. Side note number 2: Remember when you said there should be an African American Heritage Night? There is! my first game too woo woo Anyways bring him up...you want to have his first start be at home I think. I want him to actually be ready though. Don't want to rush it. But yeah this is a huge moral booster for the team and it seems like they are getting hot right now too.
May 29, 200422 yr AJ is not ready AND we are still in first place. Keep him down at AAA for a few more starts. That would make the most sense and thank GOD you guys arent running this team! :banghead :mischief
May 29, 200422 yr Albuquerque IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA AJ Burnett 3.1 7 4 4 2 6 1 10.80 That's AJ's line. Want to know why he is ready? Because of that 6. The strikeouts are there, he just gave up some hits. That'll happen. If the arm is good today, he's ready to go.
May 29, 200422 yr Anyone know how many pitches AJ threw? He probably is all keyed up about returning and maybe wasn't focused enough in this game. He got the Ks and if his arm feels good, bring him back this week!! That's the only TRUE way to know if he is ready. Speculation won't get ya anything but wasted time.

I read in the Memphis Commercial Appeal he threw near 100. It was his third rehab start, but first at Triple-A. Burnett went 3 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs. He struck out six and walked two before leaving after throwing nearly 100 pitches.
May 29, 200422 yr I would have him throw another rehab start, because like KJC said in the game thread, he doesn't have the movement on his fastball yet. I haven't seen more foul balls than in the last 2 games pitched by AJ. I'm not as worried about the runs as I am about the fact that he's not being efficient enough yet. He's gotta get through 6 innings I think before we call him up.
May 29, 200422 yr Give him another start at AAA and to further evaluate him. There no rush to bring him back especially since it appears we have a more adequate fifth starter.
May 29, 200422 yr bring his ass up.... if he is feeling good today, the doctor's approve, the team approves, I see no reason why not but thats me

Hitters, AAA hitters by the way, are seeing his pitches real good last night. Could just be a bad start. It is clear that there isnt a lot of movement or deception in his game right now and he would get blown apart at the MLB level. Besides, there is NO reason to rush him. We are in first and seven games over .500. I dont see any reason why we need to be desperate here and rush AJ back. Give him time, do it right. Otherwise, we could be doing this all over again in a couple of months.

May 29, 200422 yr If there is no pain in his arm, I see no reason to push this back. This is the moment AJ's been working for. He's been breezing by everything until yesterday. One start that his fastball doesn't move like it has been moving, and he already needs to stay in the minors? Your pitches aren't going to move every start, that is just the nature of the beast. I think he's ready, set, and will be beyond pumped for Wednesday. It's the moment he's been waiting for for over a year.

They were fouling off everything. That's how he threw 78 pitches in 4 innings even though 51 of those pitches were strikes. I don't believe he's ready and I think if he pitches for us on Wednesday it's gonna be ugly. We're on a roll right now. Why take that risk?
May 29, 200422 yr give him one more start for practice the only thing impressive yesterday was his speed
May 29, 200422 yr give him one more start for practice the only thing impressive yesterday was his speed and the K's it's very hard to judge over the radio but, until he can own AAA hitters, i would have second thoughts about having him start for the Fish. I would like to see him have one more start, but i'm also very anxious to see him in a marlin uni well, i guess i don't REALLY know what i want

May 29, 200422 yr If his arm feels fine in the morning, A.J. Burnett could be back in the Marlins' rotation Wednesday. Burnett threw 3 1/3 innings Friday night in his third rehab start, allowing seven hits and four earned runs for Triple-A Albuquerque. While it wasn't a stellar outing in terms of his linescore, the Marlins are encouraged by his pitch count. In that department, Burnett achieved a goal by throwing 92 pitches, 59 for strikes. The Marlins wanted Burnett to throw close to 100 pitches before he returns to the Majors for the first time undergoing Tommy John surgery last April. Starting for the Albuquerque Isotopes against the Memphis Redbirds, Burnett struck out six and walked two. He had one wild pitch and hit a batter. In all, he faced 20 batters. The team will evaluate Burnett on Saturday and will then determine if he is ready to return Wednesday. If a fourth rehab assignment is needed, then his long-awaited retun to the Marlins rotation could be June 8 at Cleveland. In terms of velocity, Burnett is throwing between 95-98 mph. On Friday, he was facing his highest level of competition since going on the disabled list. Memphis scored a run against Burnett in the first inning and three more in the third. He's ready. He was probably just anxious. He says he's ready, team says he's ready, doctors say he's ready, then he's ready. Bring him up. What did you guys expect? 9 scoreless innings? Just a bump in the road in his return. If he does bad in the majors, then we can talk. Besides, if he went more then 6 innings and gave up only a few runs, you people want him to get called up.
