Marlins vs Mets---7:10et---at Shea

i think Piazza would be the first to tell you a WS is better than HOF.

team > player

Whose career would jyou rather have had? Ted Williams or Ed Hearn?

I thought so. being a champion is something every player wants. I think being the best at your position and being remembered as one of the best players ever is more important.

but would you rather be great or be great AND a champion?

Of course I would, but if you had to choose between being one of the best ever and winning a world series, which would it be?

Players want a ring.

They could care less about the HoF when they make the play-offs. Do you know anyone who actually plays to get into the HoF? They want a ring.

For the media, they don't give a s*** about the rings or the players. They just go to whoever is good. How come no Lenny Harris interviews? Where the hell is my Mike Mordecai on the Budweiser Hot Seat? No Nate Bump as a guest host on PTI?

being great is wonderful BUT your records will always be broken your #s will always be diminished. being a champion can never be taken away.

yeah, but if you're a 3rd string catcher who never plays an inning, do you really deserve it? There are so many players that have rings and didn't earn them.

If you're going to do something and your goal isn't to be the best at it, what's the point?

they all strive to be the best but only so many can be elite players. thats why you put the team first and strive to make your team the best.

If you're going to do something and your goal isn't to be the best at it, what's the point? Yes you deserve it. You made it to the big leagues. You played in the big leagues. You were good enough to be in the big leagues. Not many people could say that. Every player has their day and has their game. Every player on the team desrves the ring. Look at the Marlins last year. Every single player did something in the season. Brian Banks had a walk-off single in one game, Nate Bump came in his major league debut and helped the Fish win that game in Boston, Ramon Castro had numerous big Home Runs, Hollandsworth had a game tying homer against the Expos, Tommy Phelps (A 10 year minor leaguer) made an emergency start and got the W, Mike Redmond didn't play much last year, but he's done a lot for this orginazation and he deserved it too.

It's a team thing.

As a fan, I want to see my team win...I could care less if anyone on that team breaks any records or goes to Cooperstown....It's great for them personally, but for me, I want to see my team win.

having a player inducted to the HOF as a player of your team is not a bad thing either ... we dont know because we dont have many years of existance and such

or "HOF material" players that stay here for long

As a Marlins fan, I'm alot more happy that they've won 2 World Series and have 0 HOFers than if it was 0 WS and 2 HOFers.

better to keep expectations low for this one...players coming back from tommy john always suck it up the first year or so. it took kerry wood a season and a half to become dominant again...

Regardless of tonight's results, it'll be great to have AJ back...his prescence alone should help out alot...and I think he'll do ok.

I think you're all misinterpreting what I said. We're not talking about any player being inducted into the hall of fame. Mike Piazza is the best position player to ever play for the Mets. He brought an instant sense of credibility to a team that was more or less considered a joke. He was the spark plug behind the resurgence of this franchise from the early-mid 90's. He is not just a great player, he's an icon. He IS the Mets. Seeing a guy who has given so much to this franchise and city is undoubtedly more important than winning a world series. Maybe you guys haven't had the chance to experience that type of player, but when you do I think you'll change your tune. If we were talking about any other plaer I might agree, but Mike Piazza is not just any player.

This all started when you said The Mets 0wned Burnett and Seo 0wned the Marlins.

Infact, I don't even remember how the f*** this turned into a discussion about Piazza and the HoF.
