Hugg's predicition: A.J. is solid, if not spectacular, Fish get over this minor road bump, 7-3.

:thumbup

lets not get ahead of ourselves.

AJ just needs to keep us in it...

I wish I could watch this

*wipes tear from face*

We need to figure a way to get video of the games up on a site after the game for 24 hours. :whistle Admin doesn't need to know so he is protected.

j/k

I was schedualed to work tomorrow night, from 7-10:30 to cover a baseball game. Keep in mind, being a sports journalist is my dream job. It was my only story this week; my only chance to make money.

I turned it down.

A.J. better not let me down.

If by better you mean a total ripoff of Hugg's then yeah its better.

:)

Mine's better.

:p

I feel like I have been ripped off. :mischief

This game thread better top the 1,454 posts that is our 2004 most spammed up game thread.

This game is a HUGE step to what the season may bring and everyone better show up and bring the love.

I should be around for the game, unless I end up at a graduation party.....

so actually, it's about 50/50 if I'll be around for the game :lol

Either way though, I will at least tape this game and make sure to come home and watch it, I can't wait to see how Mr. Burnett looks.

Mine's better.

:p

I feel like I have been ripped off. :mischief That's because you have, my friend.

:thumbup

i won't be here, i'll be THERE

no need to call me derogatory names or have bad wishes bestowed upon me, just be happy for me

I'll be at Friday's for this one

OMG I can't wait

Thank the Mets for taking care of Philly for us, lets give them a nice L for their trouble.

Marlins turn to Burnett to snap slide

06/02/2004  7:10 PM ETBy Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

There will be no holding back when A.J. Burnett makes his return to the Marlins rotation on Thursday night.

The hard-throwing right-hander plans on unleashing a 98-plus mph fastball and his complete pitching arsenal when the Marlins face the Mets at Shea Stadium.

Burnett will see his first big-league action since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April 29.

Before the surgery, the Arkansas native was overpowering hitters with a fastball clocked as high as 101 mph. In three rehab assignments, he has already touched 98 mph.

"The main thing to me is being able to pitch for this team," said Burnett, who was drafted by the Mets in 1995 and traded to the Marlins as part of the Al Leiter deal. "I haven't been able to play for them in a long time. A

lot of them have come so far since I got hurt. And it's just a matter of me getting out there and going to battle with these guys. And I haven't done it in a long time, so I'm looking

forward to that."

Marlins manager Jack McKeon isn't expecting miracles from Burnett the first time out. But having the services of an ace-caliber pitcher is expected to give the Marlins a boost.

"He's got outstanding stuff, no question about that," McKeon said. "They tell me he is pretty good in the strike zone. He has pretty good control. I think a few games under his belt, he really should be a big help to us. He's really got nasty stuff."

In 2002, Burnett went 12-9 with a 3.30 ERA with five shutouts and seven complete games. He struck out 203 batters in 204 1/3 innings. But in late August, he experienced tightness in his right elbow, which eventually turned into a ligament tear.?

And in 2001, he tossed a no-hitter at San Diego.

Last year, he was never fully healthy, appearing in just four games. His record was 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA when he went on the disabled list before having season-ending surgery.

Pitching has carried the Marlins to the NL East lead. But the rotation was hampered the other day when Josh Beckett was placed on the disabled list with a blister to his right middle finger.

Beckett's injury had nothing to do with Burnett returning Thursday rather than in another week. The Marlins had slotted Burnett to pitch Thursday prior to Beckett suffering his blister.

McKeon would like to see Burnett throw between 90-100 pitches.

"Make every pitch I can," Burnett said. "That's all I'm counting on. Get outs. Quick outs.

And pitching consistency. That's my goal. I feel great."
