I want to go back to D.C.

Featured Replies

Watching footage and viewing pictures of the Reagan funeral in Washington, takes me back to the days when I used to spend my summers up in D.C. When I was probably like 13 years old, my sister used to live in D.C. with her hubby and every summer, she would have my mom send me over there and spend the summer with her. She used to take me to all the National Monuments (the Lincoln Memorial is my favorite). I remember one summer, we went all the way to the White House and tried to take a tour of it, but it was all sold out. So we just hung out outside the back gates and dorky me (who saves everything) got some grass from the lawn.

The Vietnam Memorial is definitely emotional. I have gone like two or three times there and I used to cry everytime.

The Smithsonian is amazing. I used to love going there. My favorite museum was the Museum of American History. I remember seeing an exhibit on all the First Wives and they had behind a glass display a dress worn by each and every First Lady from Martha Washington to Hilary Clinton.

One thing I will never forget was my first time inside the Capitol. If you haven't been there, it is totally AMAZING. Pictures and TV do not do it justice, especially inside the rotunda. It is breathtaking.

I want to go back. :confused

Anyone else ever been there?

ive been there a couple of times ... i love DC and I love Virginia

I have family there and a bunch of friends ... im not a big fan of the monuments and stuff because it just bores me after one glance. Richmond is a fun city with lots of cool people and its very artsy which is a major plus in my book.

ohh yeah kind bud and english girls :shifty

My sister used to live in Arlington & Falls Church, VA. VA is very beautiful. Yep..... gorgeous.

Usually when we take our trek up to New Jersey/New York each summer to visit relatives, we stop in Washington, All the sites are beautiful but my favorite by far is the National Zoo with the widest collection of deadly snakes and insects in the U.S. That was really amazing to see.

Of course the traffic sucks though, throughout that Whole Northeast corridor, but it's definately worth stopping.

I have been to about 32 states including Alaska and Hawaii but never our nation's capital. :thumbdown

The zoo is freaking cool! I am an animal lover so I was in heaven. Only bad thing was the snakes, the insects, and a nasty huge toad we saw. (I hate snakes, toads, and yucky insects. Well, I don't hate them. Just don't get them near me.)

DC kicks buuuuuuuutt

I live in Williamsburg/Lightfoot, Virginia, and have been to Washington several times. I like the city, but not the surrounding area. However, the rest of Virginia owns.

ive been to washington twice....I enjoyed going to Manassas Junction for one of the first conflicts in the Civil War.

I went once for the CYLC (Congressional Youth Leadership Conference) my junior year in HS. It was a lot of fun. Got to go places with passes that usually don't work out (this was also pre-9/11). I had a blast. It's a cool city to visit (mostly b/c I like American History), but definitely would not wanna live there.

DC is bomb. I went there on a school trip in 8th grade and we were outside of a museum when this religious cult guy comes up to us and tries to give us all these books. He asked us where we were from and I deadpanned "hell." Such a sassy child I was.

ESPN Zone owns

Maybe I'm old school but I just love having the Capitol building in sight all the time. No matter how many times you go it's still awe inspiring.

williamsburg owns dude! I went there and besides visiting the historic sites, went to busch gardens and water country usa...awesome!

I'm actually taking the train this friday morning to DC for the Reagan mass...wouldn't want to miss that. You'll see pics, don't worry!

we were supposed to go in 8th grade but yeah never happened

Man its weird to me reading this thread because all but two years of my life I have lived 30 miles from DC in VA. We went there tons and tons of times when I was a kid and never thought about how lucky that I was to be able to take 3 or 4 field trips into DC every year or even just go any day of the week. Working at the Pentagon too for over my spring break.(confusing ass building inside) Like we used to go to the easter egg rolls at the White House every year, stuff like that. Anyways yes the National Zoo owns going there in a few weeks...traffic does suck, but its worth it in my opinion. Metro is a lifesaver btw especially getting to MCI center for those always fun Caps games or maybe an Elon-Georgetown. But DC is amazing. This Christmas tree, monuments, awesome city. Everyone should definitely go at least once in their life. Ton of things to do. Air and Space Musuem is amazing too. The thing I like about it the most at least where the monuments are, it isn't like New York city, its a little more country(as a city can be) would be the best way to describe it I guess. Anyways GOOGOGOGOGO
