Penny trade

Featured Replies

But you guy's rag on me because my fans boo?

I don't beleive in booing unless he's a criminal or anything but a role model.

So please if you condone this don't go saying bad things about The Vet. Booing is rude and unclassy IMO.

dawg 31 I don't agree with the run support this year. The A's and Marlins stats are almost the same in runs scored and ERA. I talk to one of the A's beat writers before the game and he said with the stats the Marlins have they should be above .500 . Penny problem is early in games he waste too many pitches early in games and leaves to the bully to get him the win.

Let me tell you, Daw31, I agree with you completely. Alot of people on this board who call themselves die hards, are really confused people. I did not want to mention names, but people like Ramp, Das, and many more....

They expect every game to be each players best then when they have a bad game, they suck and need to be traded, etc...

Some fans you guys are. Do you even truly know about baseball? You can recite the statisatics well, and Ramp you make up nicnkames for players more than anyone else, but do you all truly know the game?

I have a hard time believing you guys do. Nice fans you are.

I don't expect Penny to be at his best every single time. Which is why I posted his career stats.

His ERA is over 4, and he's at .500. Bad enough to bash relentlessly? Well, no. Good enough to heap praise upon? Not a chance.

Just middle of the road, that's all.

As for the booing, there is nothing worng for being critical of someone's on the field performance. It's not like they Booed Vlad because of some off the field or personal issue. You play bad, you get booed, simple as that.

So... Your saying it's ok to teach children to be critical and hate? Because that is what ticks me off the most because if Children seeing their parents and adults doing what do you expect to happen?

Also unless they changed their stance a VERY big number of The Users here are critical of people being booed at The Vet but then say's it's ok if it's at JR. I'm just confused.

Simple as this. When someone doing their job screwes up you don't boo them because it would be considered in poor taste and unclassy. So why is ok in Stadiums?

You've got to be kidding....It's not OK to boo at a sporting event because it will teach children to be critical and hate? If your kid sees you boo he might turn into a critical hate monger?

Hate? C'mon. That's a little bit of a reach, don't you think. It's not like you are taking them to a public execution or something.

I guess we shouldn't applaud good play, either. I mean, when someone does a good job in the office I don't stand up and applaud, so why is it OK in stadiums?

I guess you shouldn't bring you kids to the game at all. Heaven forbid we teach them accountability, the satisfaction of a good performance, or myriad benefits of fair competition.

Well it doesn't suprise me that you would defend poor sportsmanship after all you do have a Ty Cobb quote.

Ok I'll agree maybe not hate but you are teaching kids poor sportsmanship and you know it. You don't teach kids in Little League to boo and it's frowned on by parents. So does that tell you something or are you so ignorant that you don't?

Also instead making a chunk of your responce just the opposite of what I said why not make your own responce because it's obvious Should I applaud someone in the office your just trying to be a smart alex and not posting something beneficial(sp) to the debate.

Shooting holes in your argument isn't beneficial? Sorry if stating the opposite of your absurd comparisons is being a "Smart Alex".

Ok, how about this....

Obviously, there is a clear line of good taste when it comes to booing, heckling, etc...

Do I think it's OK to call Jason Kidd a wife beater while his wife and kid are sitting in front of me at a game? Of course not.

But is it OK to boo someone for poor performance on the field? Of course. Did Vlad and his wife expect a standing O when he came back and walked two strait? Is he expecting applause for his bloated 7+ ERA in the minors?

When Penny got a standing ovation for smoking in a 3 RBI triple the other night, is the ovation wrong because it brings attention to the fact that Mark Mulder gave up the hit?

And as for your comparison to Little League...... We teach kids in little league to let everyone play, and that winning isn't important. Should we hold MLB teams to that same maxim, or am I being ignorant again? YOu could think of a thousand examples like that, but it's apples and oranges.

Maybe they should just play in a big TV studio somewhere without fans at all. Is that the answer?

Yeah you nailed it MarlinsBandit

I am overly critical of players for no reason.

In fact I have always been one of the Penny supporters. Look through the archives to figure that out.

What players have I been critical of?

Derrek Lee...I wonder why.

Pudge Rodriguez....I wonder why.

Now explain to me how I expect perfection night in and night out.....

I want to see Lee get a hit when it counts once a week to start with.

I want Pudge to start earning that 10 million.

Now explain to me how I am overly critical of players?

I came out in week 1 and said that I was wrong about Juan Pierre and that he can be a player for this team.

I have given praise to Alex Gonzalez.

You are a fool who simply is looking at every word I type to make an arguement out of...but thats cool, bring it.

Hey Das, you are really being unreasonable....

First off, we've already established that you shouldn't be critical of any Marlins player, for any reason other that the commision of a felony. Poor performance shouldn't be criticized, you might make someone feel bad. Remember, always be positive about this team, regardless of reality.

And to take it further, I sure hope you aren't exposed to any children, since you being critical will lead them to be hate mongering serial killers who have no concept of sportsmanship.

Shame on you. Tisk, tisk.

No...you are way off. You both don't understand anything obviously. Nothing is ever good enough. If someone has a good game then it is, "they won't do it next time," or "that was luck" etc...

But if they have a bad game it is a "see thats the real them," or "they have always sucked", etc....

Just keep quiet, your stupidity is shining through.

I came out in week 1 and said that I was wrong about Juan Pierre and that he can be a player for this team.

That right there implies that you were NEGATIVE, like usual from the start and did not even give Pierre a chance before you jumped on him.

I have given praise to Alex Gonzalez.

Yeah, and you were always a big supporter of him from the start!

You are a fool who simply is looking at every word I type to make an arguement out of...but thats cool, bring it.

Correction, you are the fool and it is easy to make an argument of your words, since you always go against the grain and can never go withm the flow or agree on anything positive. By the way, it has been brought.

If if recall correctly, Das was against the rumored deal to get Bartolo Colon from the Expos last year, mostly due to the fact that we'd have to give up Brad Penny.

Did Vlad and his wife expect a standing O when he came back and walked two strait?

He was getting booed as he walked onto the field. Before he even threw a pitch. Is this done in the hopes that it'll help him to pitch better?

Yeah, yeah....

I make one mistake on Juan Pierre and I quickly turned that around and admitted my mistake.

As far as Alex Gonzalez I was on his side last May, right before he got hurt.

Dont try to make a fool of yourself, you will succeed very easily.

I am not content with mediocrity, I am sorry if that makes you happy or gives you a woody. If I dont see a winning season or improvement in my team I am not happy. I am tired of the same crap for the past 3 years. There has been no improvement with this team, enough is enough.

Like I said a few months ago, I am probably spoiled by the Spurs, who can make it to the NBA Finals in a rebuilding year, while this team cannot even reach .500 in a year when we were 'promised' this team would contend for the playoffs.

Please.

Dont try to make a fool of yourself, you will succeed very easily.

Well if I succeed, then that means I learned from the best, responding to you.

Who is content with mediocrity? Not me! But certain things make me happy, and nothing makes you happy. All I see is b*tch after b*tch after b*tch.

Well sorry, we are not the Spurs and we are not in the NBA where one man can dominate day in and day out so easily and we do not put 5 players out at one time. We do not have a salary cap and we do have to compete against teams with a payroll $100 million higher. And since when were the Spurs "rebuilding" this year?

The Spurs are rebuilding since they announced that last year......

Coming from the mouth of Peter Holt, Spurs Chairman....

2002 and 2003 will be rebuilding years leading up to the summer of 2003 when we have all that cap space....

PS...the spurs are a small market team...but they have the third best winning percentage in NBA history....I am spoiled....and the nba didnt always have a salary cap.

No...you are way off. You both don't understand anything obviously. Nothing is ever good enough. If someone has a good game then it is, "they won't do it next time," or "that was luck" etc...

Nothing is ever good enough? No, but how about a winning season? How about consistancy? Is that too much too ask?

Listen, you eternal apologists can put as much lipstick as you'd like on this pig, but it isn't going to sell. In alot of cases the Marlins should be criticized for poor performance. No, not always, but there are alot of gaping holes on this team.

Like I said about Penny...He's not bad enough to pile on and slam him every chance we get, but then again he's not exactly throwing up awesome numbers either..... Mediocre!

I don't think that's too harsh... I think most people, after looking at his career numbers, would say that a .500 inning percentage and an ERA over 4 is, well, pretty damn mediocre.

I don't care what he said. You will have a lot of cap space because, for one, Robinson is retiring. Any team with David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and a player who many predicted to win the ROY in Ginobli is not rebulding.

Just because you were dumb enough to believe Holt's statements doesn't mean I am. Get a clue.

Also, as I said, all it takes is one great player in the NBA to make a team a winner. Having David Robinson for his career then getting lucky and drafting Duncan doesn't hurt, now does it?

Nothing is ever good enough? No, but how about a winning season? How about consistancy? Is that too much too ask?

I agree we should be better than we are now, but if we won 100 games, some of you would demand that we win 101 instead of 100.

I'm not appologizing for anything. I agree we should be better than we are, but we do not have a lot of gaping holes on this team, and that is a huge reason why we should be better.

Like I said about Penny...He's not bad enough to pile on and slam him every chance we get, but then again he's not exactly throwing up awesome numbers either..... Mediocre!

He is not mediocre. He had a bad year last year, but the year before his ERA was in the 3s, as it is again this year. And when you are around 25yrs old and to have that, you are better than mediocre.

I don't think that's too harsh... I think most people, after looking at his career numbers, would say that a .500 inning percentage and an ERA over 4 is, well, pretty damn mediocre.

Maybe when his career is all said and done, but not when you are this young.

Penny can't ride on his youth anymore... He's got 90 starts under his belt.

This isn't Willis, or even Beckett. He is a 3+ year veteran. Potential doesn't cut it anymore.

You can say that Penny isn't mediocre until you are blue in the face, but once again..... a career .500 winning percentage and an ERA over 4. Any other great pitchers out there with those kind of numbers?

You are right, sometimes he shows flashes of brilliance and other times he stinks up the joint.... Which is exactly what I would call... Mediocre.

Wow. This is pretty ridiculous.

I do agree that a lot of Florida fans are rude, but then, a lot of fans anywhere are rude. And as for kids growing up with bad sportsmanship, give me a break. In that case, kids shouldn't be allowed to watch The Flintstones, because Fred is always sneaking out and lying to Wilma about where he's going. Maybe kids shouldn't be taught that in games of two parties there is a "winner" and a "loser." This way, the worst you can finish is with the title "first runner-up."

Puh-lease.

Anyone who knows Adam (Das Texan) and bothers to read what he writes knows that he corrects himself when he's wrong. I do remember him not wanting Colon because we'd have to give up Penny. I remember him saying last year to give Gonzalez a chance, but let it be his last chance.

And obviously, after one bad gfame you can't want a player to be traded or benched. But we're 10 weeks into the season, and D. Lee and Pudge are still sucking it up and batting around .250. That's not to say neither one of them is a good player - there are several teams that wouldn't mind having Lee, and we all know Pudge is a great player - just not this year, obviously. And when you see something like that, ten weeks into the season, it's okay to want the guy to leave.

As foR Nunez being booed with his wife and kid in the stands, big flippin' deal. Nunez had to know he'd be booed, so why would he bring his wife and kid to the game then? You don't have a horrible ERA in the majors, a horrible ERA as a major league pitcher in the minors, then come back and expect to be warmly accepted. It just doesn't work that way.

Saying that booing at stadiums is wrong...this is the kind of censorship that will lead to the downfall of this country.

P.S.- If I wasn't on "probation" on these boards, I'd have some choice words to add to this post.

If if recall correctly, Das was against the rumored deal to get Bartolo Colon from the Expos last year, mostly due to the fact that we'd have to give up Brad Penny.

That would be correct Hotcorner...

I must have bypassed this post in everything else here...

But yeah, I am an eternal negative fool.
