July 11, 200422 yr According to PB Post today, Benitez phoned the dugout in the 7th to let Jack know he was ready to pitch two innings. PB Post is quite trustworthy. Quoting Benitez after: "What went through my mind was we needed this game, we can't lose this game." Armando is a winner. With a Marlins' heart and muscle. Now I look for that same spirit, heart and muscle from Koch, who I have called potentially the Second Coming of Fox. Meanwhile, I give a Standing O' for Benitez whenever he comes in for us. (edited: Sometimes I am not patient with the youth herein who, IMO, treat this site as a silly chat-room. But, many of them know already more than I do and many have perspectives I learn from. So... for those good people in-between... the very famous quotation "Let's Play Two Today" comes from Hall of Famer "Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks at a time the Cubs were really doing lousy. Though not as "historic" I think Armando's telling the Manager he wanted to pitch two innings showed the same guts.)

July 11, 200422 yr That's jsut what this team needs more of. Someone stepping up like that and then putting on a dominating performance. Maybe some players on the team will see that and want to do the same(performance wise not demanding to play)

July 11, 200422 yr What I would like to see is this kind of "winning is everything" attitude carry on to the rest of the team. I've been thankful to Armando for a while just for keeping us in the division race this year basically by himself as the supporting cast comes and goes with the varying "slumps" everyone says we've fallen victim to. However, this is just taking it to another level, and it shows I think how much being here has changed him. Maybe he realized the team needed a big boost and the big guy took it upon himself to help. I thank him for it.
