July 26, 200422 yr Just speculation on my part but if This Finley deal is real. I find it hard to see that The D Backs would just want Stokes as they already have Sexson along with a few good prospects on the first base side. So is it possible that Wayne starting today was somewhat of a showcase for The D Backs to include with A Finley deal because it just strikes me odd that they would trade Finley for just another 1b prospect.
July 26, 200422 yr Well, if he was "showcased" I think the deal may be dead . Eitherway, Gammons on BBTN said that it appears that they want Stokes and Murphy...a little too much for my liking, especially when Gammons ended the sentence by saying "he's going to re-sign with Arizona in the offseason."
July 26, 200422 yr I doubt it. Wayne was used today because they needed a spot starter and he was due to start for the Topes today anyway.
July 26, 200422 yr Finely and the phillies are basically a done deal. 475767 you have a link or something?
July 26, 200422 yr Author Finely and the phillies are basically a done deal. 475767 I hope you're not implying to The Philadelphia Inquier article because that's what I've heard ESPN news is going on, so I doubt it's a done deal.
July 26, 200422 yr Well, they're not just getting Stokes, but Murphy, I guess. Besides, we needed someone to fill this rotation slot. Bump already failed and so did Tejera.....all we were left with really, was Wayne.
July 26, 200422 yr We need Murphy to replace Pavano or Penny. We can't throw away next year for a small chance of making the playoffs this year.

This year we have a very good chance of making the playoffs and when you have the starting staff we have, we have a very good chance of getting far into the playoffs. That is what you play for. The team has to take its best shot at getting back. Trading Stokes and Murphy, I have no problem with - but lets make sure we are getting what we need and what we want.
