Question for someone

How much are draft picks worth in baseball?? like a first round pick or a second round pick. Are they worth as much as in football or basketball. For example can we trade a prospect and next year first round pick or a future first round pick for a player?? are draft picks valuable.

LO,caron and grant and 1st roun pick for shaq or

two #1 for ricky williams

You can't trade draft picks prior to the draft, as is my understanding. And in terms of "worth", I would consider NFL and NBA picks worth more because (a) there are fewer rounds and (b) the players play immediately.

Teams may not trade picks, also there is a rule that prohibits trading a drafted player for a year after the draft. This was the case in 1998 with the Marlins and Mets in the Piazza deal. The Fish had to wait a few weeks to get Geoffery Goetz, even though everyone knew he was the player to be named later. He had been the Mets 1st round pick the previous June. As for the value of 1st round picks it is rare that a player is able to make an immediate contribution to the Major League team. Even the best 1st round picks the Marlins have had (e.g. Chales Johnson, Mark Kotsay, Josh Beckett...) needed a little seasoning in the minors.

If only we could get someone to accept Allison in a trade. :mischief2

I'd rather hang on to him. At this point, he's not going to be any less valuable to us, we might as well see if he comes to his senses and tries to use some of his talent...
