BBTN looks at the LA FLA trade

another thing eveyrone is forgetting is that we have a lot of off days

we can stick with a 4 man rotation some times

how can you say the lineup is a wash, if you dont like the trade that is one thing, but to say the lineup is a wash is ridiculous. If you take out April, Choi is having a bad to poor season. Lo Duca is a HUGE upgrade over Redmond. I love Red, but the bottem line is he's a backup catcher as opposed to the all-star we have acquired in Lo Duca. While I dont know Encarnacions breakdown by the months, i would guess that if you take April out him and Choi have very similar numbers (I also believe another deal is in the work, Encarnacion left on such bad terms I can't see him putting on a Marlins Uni again). Lastly, it seems almost a matter of time before we make another deal for a starter and/or another outfielder, so all of us may be rushing to judgement.

I know we filled some holes. But I still can't get past the fact that we lost more offense than we gained, and we lost more pitching than we gained. I have to assume that makes this a bad trade. And most of us agree this deal is worse long-term than it is short-term.

I guess I'm not as obsessed with the concept of filling holes as y'all are.

Brantley--"LA just gave the Marlins the WS"

I'm pretty sure no one here likes Brantley. I don't need guys on TV to tell me what to think about this deal, when I can see it clearly for myself that we lost more than we gained.

Buster Olney, whoever that is, loves this deal too.

Well BBTN sure does make me feel better about the trade.

still doesnt sit right tho

the peps on BBTN LOVE this trade on the marlins side and disagree on the dodgers side. if the dodgers fail to get finley and johnson and miss the playoffs the people in LA will chase the new ownership out of town in pitchforks.

the sad thing is, they're talking about the trade only from LA's perspective.

they dont even have a grasp of our 5th starter situation, let alone the fact that choi is our only lefty power bat and isn't arbitration eligible until 2007.

to them, it's a "win" for us only in the sense that the dodgers supposedly lose for toying with success.

i hear what they say and i try to make myself feel good about it, but i know these guys are incapable of even naming the guys on our starting rotation, let alone having an adequate grasp of our lineup needs and choi's pricetag.

It's easy to understand why people like the trade if you explain it a certain way.

We needed a catcher. We got one.

We needed a relief pitcher. We got one.

Unfortunately, now we need a 5th starter, and we are even more in need of some offense.

I'm tired of talking about this stupid trade. I hope it works out, I hope intangibles or whatever, and leadership, and a little extra team speed matter a lot more than I think they do. I hope we go on to win the WS. And I hope we beat the freaking Expos tomorrow. I'm just less optimistic about all that than I was this morning.

BBTN thinks we're getting a better deal because we are getting better names, most people look at Hee Seop Choi and Bill Murphy and have no idea who they are, without looking at the actual production of the players involved.

Do you think BBTN guys just look at names without taking into consideration production? Who does that, seriously? Come on now, that's bogus.

you put it perfectly.

i'd love this trade too if i wasn't very familiar with the team.

Then how can they just look past the fact that we need a fifth starter and Encarnacion is probably the worst starting offensive outfielder in the major leagues?
