July 31, 200421 yr He's eligible for arbitration this winter and could command $3.5M 485621[/snapback] Arbi is either one side or another's offer taken. No meeting in between. If the Fish put out $2.7M, it may happen. If not, he gets his price.
July 31, 200421 yr I know, but the Marlins have rarely taken players through arbitration. They reward players who they want to keep, trade the others and pinch players with less service time.
July 31, 200421 yr I hope this is not the end of the trades....we now have a gaping hole in our 5 man rotation. Even if we get Walker and send Encarnacion elsewhere, who are we getting to fill in the rotation. I hope they are not assuming Bump, Tejera, Phelps, or any other we have tried. I understand Penny - probably would not be able to afford him...now we focus on Burnett and Pavano.
July 31, 200421 yr I'll like it more if we turn Carny around for some other Outfielder but if not I still hate the trade.
July 31, 200421 yr an interesting note concerning a fifth starter....boog said on the radio tonight that the marlins could easily get away with 6 starts from the fifth slot in their rotation from this point of the season onward

He was never skipped.
July 31, 200421 yr & not to exaggerate, but 6 starts can be pretty big when you consider 2 or 3 games could be the difference between 1st and 2nd in this league.
